I leaned into the idea that I was having a **** day where everything went wrong and I was trying to blow off steam, and yet another thing went wrong when I tried to delete it.

It helps that they don't want me to leave, so they choked down my BS.

.....and today I was fired. No specific reason given.

My boss started her own firm "in secret" even though there were hints everywhere and I actually just found the smoking gun too. Funny how we haven't had any new projects to start since those contracts came out. The projects I've served a more prominent role on have high rates and good marks from the client. My reports work hard and seem to enjoy my leadership. I put in extra hours. I was here and there and everywhere they needed me. But the budget is stretched thin and I'm not the kiss ass.

I got bills but you know what? I'm actually relieved. Can't worry about what I can't control and I've been miserable under her microscope for a year.

Freedom is beautiful and scary lol

    Good. Time to shine.

Use this guy to revamp your resume & LinkedIn. Best $160 you'll ever spend.

    Sorry to hear that,

I use to think I would spend my entire career at one company like my dad, but then I got laid off.

Since then / pandemic, I do two jobs and basically worked my way into a spot where I can say **** it any moment and peace out.

Hope you wind up in a good spot.

Right now I am dealing with a really frustrating client who constantly confuses my role and requests work outside of my regular scope. It's kind of a gray area though, so there are times when I just do it because I'm competent. It's distracting me from my regular role at this point. The worst part is that this client will receive work/emails/etc. and ignore it for 6 months, then realize they want to finish it up ASAP and start acting like myself and others involved are the reason we now find ourselves behind schedule.

The company I work for understands what I am dealing with, but my team always comes back to me with generic ass suggestions and things that are more likely to piss the client off than smooth things over. It's an awkward ****ing position, and I feel like I'm the only one in the room with common sense at times.

I also will be starting a new job in the fall, so I'm kind of in a soft quit mode atm. All the work gets done, and there are plenty of weeks when it's low maintenance and I can cruise, the job pays well, but at this point I am so fed up with the BS that I am considering saying **** it and leaving this role sooner than expected. I was planning on taking a month off in late summer, but I now find myself weighing options of whether I want to take like 3 months off.

First world problems I know, but I don't do well with incompetence and BS. Right now I feel like I am working around too much of that, and I'm getting easily frustrated.

I really sympathise with that feeling where you are simultaniously scared of the unknown and overjoyed with relief at being free at the same time.

Let us know when you get something better with a huge raise, so we can all judge your old boss.

Sounds like a good situation, tbh. We all deal with problem customers, be they internal or external. In your case you have sympathetic co-workers, a light (?) workload, and a clearly defined exit plan.

As someone who has reviewed a lot of resumes, the folks who use these services stick out like sore thumbs, and not always in a good way tbh.

I'm way more impressed with a simple template that delivers the goods than these really flashy sell-sheets.

The one time I hired a guy who had a resume like this, I told him after the fact that his resume was almost a liability, because it was so aesthetically noisy it overshadowed his work... and his resume also was not in any way indicative of his personality nor was the job suited to someone who has a flair/desire for the creative.

The caveat I'd introduce is that if you're very young or new to an industry this can help perhaps open some doors when you're desperate.

The caution I'd argue is that if your resume is more sizzle than steak you will end up making yourself a target for bad orgs and management that can't discern between competence and a simple shiny object.

    Respectfully disagree.
    • I used this guy's service and on a whim put my info out there last year when I switched my day job and was overwhelmed by interviews and job offers. It may be that my steak is fat and muscular due to my experience, but it got my foot in the door at dozens of employers. I had over 20 interviews and six job offers in the first two week.

    • Among other things, I'm a hiring manager and this particular resume would absolutely catch my eye.
I guess if you're this guy you won't be interested by new-fangled targeted resumes:

But I'm in healthcare software & IT and the response was incredible.

Again... thanks brehs @Ottomaton @AroundTheWorld @Os Trigonum @IBTL @Xerobull . I didn't sleep much last night but I do feel relatively calm about it. It really wasn't a surprise. It brings me joy to know we can clown on each other about the Rockets but still show some love about the real life. Thank you all, I hope I can return the kindness at some point.

That hits home, my pops worked in one spot for 40+ years, owned it by the end. He's retired, raised 2 kids, has land, he's only 62. Took meaningful vacations, spent time with us, had hobbies and friends. I'm just wondering how one generation later is so different where I've spent more than half my life working already and I'm not even 37 yet. I can barely afford a small home older than me. Vacations have to be gifted. I feel like an outsider around my wife and son, let alone extended fams because I only see them when I'm too tired to do anything else.

But older folks say we don't want to work. It's all I've ever done, I just want it to mean the same thing it meant to their generation. I don't want to die working and still living by the paycheck. Is that asking too much?

I don't believe in burnout culture. The work was still getting done but my reports had flexibility when asked for and we joked around sometimes. That's why I got fired.

Sounds like bad leadership culture, probably too much of it, causing Iceberg of Ignorance and bottlenecks everywhere.

Takes a while for the top of the ivory tower to realize the whole thing is imploding.

Take your attitude to your next place of employment. You're going to love it.

IIRC you are a project manager who has a marketing/BA education, yes? That's not really an industry specific thing. Maybe your background are those two areas?

I would say that the response you get will be affected by the industry you swim in and the job you're seeking there.

Let's just say I am not surprised at all that you are very keen on this type of service.

Project Manager with both a very technical IT background a more distant background in sales. I have marketing experience in my businesses. Undergrad is not a BA, it's a BS in IT, halfway through with an MBA which I paused indefinitely after seeing the way some C-Levels really act.

I definitely wouldn't put forward a flashy resume to say, a chemical plant or machine shop. But in more forward thinking industries, it's a slam dunk to get your foot in the door.

No I would say the workload is fine normally, I wouldn’t call it light, but the past month and a half have involved a separate project that I shouldn’t be involved with, and I’m getting minimal technical support. They are sympathetic, but they aren’t stepping in to intervene when they should. The workload during this time has been high because I’m basically handling the workload of 2 full time positions.
