And people will keep saying this until he wins an NBA title. Fine. Every player has "concerns he needs to answer".
Not necessarily and definitely not for me. Like I said, I am personally waiting to see how he performs when we have an actual defensive system in place where players have defined roles and most importantly, are held accountable to fulfilling those roles. At the same time, whether he can develop a shot or not is practically a dealbreaker for me personally. If he can’t, then he has to be able to absolutely dominate the paint. Like think Shaq levels of dominance here. Otherwise, he just simply won’t be worth building around IMO.
I'm in the don't trade Green/Jabari/Sengun/Tari BEFORE Udoka can have a shot at doing his majic camp! Unless we are getting a player that is still fairly young and is CLEARLY an alpha dog I woundn't trade any of these players!! All these players are VERY young and oozing with potential!! Go Rockets!!! ....... ....... .......
So, I'm a Sengun fan in the sense that I think his floor is very high, and he's probably our best current player, and I do think he has a chance to be a guy who's in a number of all-star games during his prime years. I'm not sure I quite see superstar upside, personally. That makes me just ever so slightly more willing to part with him than Jalen Green even though Sengun is definitely more productive than Green as they are now. But the reality is there's still a very significant possibility that Sengun could have a career more around the level of a Greg Monroe, Shawn Kemp, or Brook Lopez. Not direct player comps, just a few big men who were roughly as good as Sengun at roughly the same age, and are "Hall of Very Good", not "Hall of Fame" type of guys. I don't want to get too breathless with comparing his numbers to guys who later turned out to be superstars, because there are definitely guys who produced like Sengun at around his current age but did not achieve that level.
I suppose you can argue he was for a brief period at his peak. He's not in the hall of fame for a reason though (and it's not just the cocaine)
One question is how will Harden and Sengun fit together? I think they have a lot of individual elements that could mesh but overall I am a little skeptical. And thats just about offense. I don’t think Green/Sengun/Harden/Smith + anyone is a feasibke defensive grouping.
Yes but mostly because there’s no point. Your best shot at building a contender still is with these yahoos. If you luck out and Giannis or Luka go to Woj with a list of teams they want to go to and Houston happens to be on that list, see ya… until then this youngsters are still our best chance. As frustrating as someone like Jalen Green is, you aren’t trading him for someone like Tobias Harris or Rudy Gay. There’s no point.
Depends on Ime and who "anyone" is. Presumably, Wemby would give you a lot of added rim protection, and Tari is a great hustle defender.
Few people would trade Green for Tobias Harris. And no way you can get guys like Luka for Green unless the dude forces his way here. The more intriguing question is, would you trade Green for some established second tier stars like Booker, Brown, or maybe Beal? It depends on how likely you think Green will end up better than those guys.
Next year, Sengun after light weights and working with his head coach he will be better than Sabonis in 2024…..easily a top 10 center in 2024
Well that's just stupid. They sucked not because they are bums but because Silas is mentally challanged. If they wet their pants this season too with Ime you might start questioning their ability. By wetting their pants i mean finishing bottom 2-3 again. Whilst i think none of them has superstar ceiling you absolutely can build a playoff team with the current crop of Rockets youngsters. What you are saying rn is essentially is saying that until sun rises tomorrow there is no sun but we know it'll rise. With the 2023 pick, there is no way this team doesn't get into the playoffs in 4 seasons max.
I'm hoping under Udoka's coaching Green will become an above average defensive player over the next couple years. He has the tools to be great on that end, just needs the skills and effort. Smith will be a good two-way player within the next couple years as well, IMO. I don't see any reason to think otherwise. Sengun will never be elite on defense, but he can become average-ish, i.e. Pau Gasol. I think what you'd need with this group is to trade away KPJ and add a couple good defensive perimeter players, one of them to start at the 3 and one to be a backup guard, as well as a rim-protecting backup center. Probably one of them would be signed using our remaining cap space, one would be via the MLE, and one would either be acquired via trade (for KPJ + draft considerations perhaps?) or just as a vet minimum guy. Every single player in the regular rotation other than Harden/Sengun would need to be a good defender, in other words.
Booker yes. No question. Beal and Brown… questionable but can’t rule it out. Probably no point in that trade without another star player already here or coming here.
I don't disagree with you about another star. But it's kind of a chicken and egg situation. Do you wait for that "another star" before trading your young talent for an established star or do you trade for this star in order to attract another star? Of course, the most ideal situation is if you could instantly assemble a quasi super team in one scoop. But reality is rarely ideal. (If we win the Wemby sweepstake, it might happen.)
I'd say no you don't trade your young talent for a star unless you have star 1A already committed or here. I think about the Clippers Kawhi/PG offseason alot as the blueprint for how to go about doing trades like this. You wouldn't want to trade for PG using SGA without Kawhi already committing to signing in the offseason. (yes you could argue about how SGA is better, etc. etc. but at that time, I think there's a talent comparable there). So I'd trade any of our young guys for someone that is a 1A type of talent, but not 1B without 1A already committed, signed, or traded for. In the case we are looking at potentially with Harden, or Jalen Brown... IMO they are 1B or 2A guys. They aren't 1A guys you either trade for with your high level talent or trade your young talent/picks away to get another 1B or 2A (Beal being a good example). The young Yahoos are our best chance at getting a 1A or a couple more 1B & 2A's. There's no point in gutting that talent and asset pool just to have a 1B and 2A. Now if we sign a Harden or Jalen Brown, and then next year we have 2 Young guys break out into 1B and 2A level, you in a much better spot with flexibility, bird rights, picks, etc. to either win by committee or be a very attractive place for a Giannis, Luka, etc. to join, and create a super team.... ......or just be a freaking fun as hell young talented borderline contender for years.... which sounds kinda cool TBH. I'm kinda over the superteam era, and just want to watch awesome fun teams. Rooting for an underdog is always way more rewarding as a fan than a superteam.
Sengun is better than Jokic at the same age. That does not mean he will be as good as Jokic but he very well could be. He might even be better. It all depends on what his ceiling is. Even if he has already reached his ceiling, he is going to be be a very good player with a productive career. I personally do not think he has reached his ceiling. Only time will tell.
