In North Carolina the state Supreme Court reversed itself and is allowing highly gerrymandered district maps for the 2024 election. They’re also allowing the stripping of voting rights for felons that had been restored. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/04/28/us/north-carolina-supreme-court-gerrymander.html North Carolina Court, With New Partisan Mix, Reverses Itself on a Key Voting Case When it had a Democratic majority last year, the North Carolina Supreme Court voided the state’s legislative and congressional maps as illegal gerrymanders. Now the court has a Republican majority, and says the opposite. Last year, Democratic justices on the North Carolina Supreme Court ruled that maps of the state’s legislative and congressional districts drawn to give Republicans lopsided majorities were illegal gerrymanders. On Friday, the same court led by a newly elected Republican majority looked at the same facts, reversed itselfand said it had no authority to act. The practical effect is to enable the Republican-controlled General Assembly to scrap the court-ordered State House, Senate and congressional district boundaries that were used in elections last November, and draw new maps skewed in Republicans’ favor for elections in 2024. The 5-to-2 ruling fell along party lines, reflecting the takeover of the court by Republican justices in partisan elections last November. The decision has major implications not just for the state legislature, where the G.O.P. is barely clinging to the supermajority status that makes its decisions veto-proof, but for the U.S. House, where a new North Carolina map could add at least three Republican seats in 2024 to what is now a razor-thin Republican majority. Overturning such a recent ruling by the court was a highly unusual move, particularly on a pivotal constitutional issue in which none of the facts had changed. The North Carolina case mirrors a national trend in which states that elect their judges — Ohio, Kentucky, Kansas, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and others — have seen races for their high court seats turned into multimillion-dollar political battles, and their justices’ rulings viewed through a deeply partisan lens. If you want to lose all hope in this country watch this video. @basso @Commodore @Astrodome Are you guys okay? Jesus
What the hell are you watching? Mix in some draft or baseball. I couldn't get through 2 minutes of that junk.
Just to keep everyone on their toes. Yes a lot of the Republican agenda is unpopular and a lot of their main figures unlikeable. There coils still be a Republican President and Republican majorities in both houses of Congress come 2025. if unpopularity and unlikeabilty were as certain in elections Ted Cruz would’ve never won. As is Republicans still hold several structural advantages in multiple states. Including in battlegrounds like WI and GA. There had been hope a few years ago that NC would be a battleground but the Republicans have just greatly strengthened their advantage there.
Trump knows everyone wants to take a bullet for him, but they might not have the reaction time or athleticism they need to actually do it when the opportunity presents itself. So he might very selflessly help them achieve their goals by pulling or pushing them in the right direction to catch that bullet.
Republicans have a supermajority in the WI legislature. As such they can override gov Evers in a lot of other things and are looking to put in laws to override their Supreme Court. If the legislative supremacy case in the USSC goes for state legislatures they will have sole control over elections no matter what the makeup of their courts. As is they’ve already gerrymandered the state so much to make it very difficult to break their advantage even as they lose statewide elections.
Shocking, not one policy on the list other than "dont touch our guns".........yep, that about sums up the gop these days and what they want in a candidate, which is why trump is there man!!
......the Wi gerrymander is about to be struck down. Did you forget democrats flipped the state Supreme court? Their advantage is gone?
Everything about that episode (except the end where Homer finally listens and learns) is literally today's GOP.
