His FIP is below 3.00 …. His hits allowed are up, but so are his K’s and he has a 4:1 strikeout to walk rate…. He is on pace to be nearly a 3 WAR pitcher this year.

His WHIP is up but his ERA+ is better than ever, as are a lot of his other numbers.

3/39 just isn’t a lot of money anymore. It seems like it should be, but in the current market it really is.

There are no guarantees, especially with relievers. However if you have to pay someone in the pen, you pay the guy with the high level arm, which Montero has.

We will just have to agree to disagree. I am fine with Montero at 3/39 in 2023 and he has done his job this year so far.

Abreu is off to a slow start but he hit well in the Spring and has a history of a slow April. He has been very consistent in his career and I anticipate he will end up at an OPS of 115-130 again and be a key part of what the Astros do.

    3 for 34.5 million not 39 million

He's an even better bargain than you thought...

His whip is and hits per 9 ar right where he has always been sporting some ugly era numbers. Telling me his is getting lucky so far.

Guess we will see what we see, but at this rate I'd rather see several other relievers before Montero in late inning pressure situations

One game at a time guys.

Hope Jose and Brantley return ASAP to help this offense carry the squad while LMJ/Urquidy/Garcia are on the shelf.

The Jake Meyers ascension back to respectability is one of the more remarkable things I've witnessed. It felt like he was never going to get that OPS over .600 again.

Sure, we'll need him but the argument is what could that 34 mil have been spent on instead of him. 11 mil/yr is way steep for him

eta... just saw your other posts about his contract. The problem is we are paying both Montero and Pressly top dollar and Montero seemed like a rush to overpay. I highly doubt anyone else was giving him 3/34.5. But, I get your points, and I'm fine with the player, the contract just felt a little O'Brien-ish.

The Dubon hot streak continues to amaze. But is it just a hot streak? Maybe he is really good, and has just hit his stride. Time will tell.

Absolutely bro. I have my doubts but I hear ya. Would love it if this is the real Dubon.

Same ops and OPS+ as his first 2 seasons in SF. I understand that we only saw Dubon last season which was the worst of his career but this is not some weird outlier.

Look I was as critical as anyone about the off-season, but to complain about pitching when we have a 137 era plus right now is silly. The Montero contract was too much imo, but since the team has 20M in empty salary up to the cap I guess there was no opportunity cost so, whatever. Guess it doesn’t matter.

I'm now convinced Abreu needs to bat 8th in the lineup.

He can't even get the ball in the air.

I hope everyone is good to go when we hit the 26 games in 27 days at the end of May (6) into June (20 in 21).
