FYI The legend and HOF player Kobe shot 32.4% mid range and 33.5% jumpshots in his second year at 20 years old. Both numbers less than Green 39.9% mid range and 36.4% jumpshot at 20 years old in his second year. Let that sink in.

That is why as great as he was, he was called a chucker during his days when fans were not content with him.

Especially when his shot was not going in.

Not just when he was 20 yrs old but throughout his illustrious career.

Are you saying because there’s other players on the team, this led to Brown not being able to score more points than he should?

By saying this, players would never reach their peak scoring ability simply if they’re on a team with other players? Or are you saying just because a player is on a team with other capable scorers the player’s scoring average or output is affected by this phenomenon?

The opportunity was there for Brown to take as a starter on a young team with unproven players. Heyward was out the whole year. Tatum was a rookie. Rozier was a 3rd year player on the second team but did play big minutes with the first unit. Kyrie only played 60 games. Not sure what you mean by dog eat dog and competition. Brown played big minutes and he was a starter. You’re not competing against your team mates on the court you’re trying to play as a unit and win games. That team won 55 games that year. If you’re a big dog you seize the opportunity and be that lead scorer. But he didn’t. He did progress and evolve through the years as most players do but the argument thar theres other guys on the team eating into your scoring output or performance don’t make no sense.

Klay Thompson avg a consistent 16-18 shots a game after Curry in those championship years. Never stopped him from getting his shots even with Durant who shot about the same amount at 16-18 FGA those years.

I also don't know what planet some of these media guys are living on speculating about Brown wanting to "get a chance to be the guy" or whatever. Only 3 players took more field goal attempts per game this season, and only 10 players had a higher usage percentage. Brown and Tatum essentially had the same usage, the difference was extremely slim.

I've seen multiple comparisons to Harden's situation in OKC, which is just laughable. Harden was literally coming off the bench in OKC taking half the shot attempts of Westbrook/Durant.

If you increased Brown's usage any further as a guy averaging 3 assists per game, he would be one of the worst ballhogs in NBA history. He is not hurting for opportunities to score at all.

Yeah dunno. It may be a Kyrie situation with the cavs where he wants to be the leader of his team and build his own legacy winning a championship as this. But this has never been substantiated. There may be some truth to the murmurs of his unhappiness in Boston in terms of how his name has been in trade talks for several years plus he had documented issues with living in the city of Boston. But you’re right. In terms of touches, playing time, and usage, there’s no shortage there.

I enjoy watching young teams grow into contenders but if this gives us another 4+ year championship window, let’s do it.

Who's is giving us a championship window of e trade for them? Luka? Giannis?

Surely you aren't talking about a dude who averaged more turnovers than assists at Green's age.

I probably should have expanded on my post.

I take this as potentially part of a package deal- draft picks+talent (including Green) to build a roster of 2-3 all-stars plus supporting cast. If we sign Harden, that’s probably the way we go. It’s all academic at this point.

Cool so we pull a Nets and become mid for a decade.

You really this eager for some first and second round exits as your max ceiling of what the team can be?

No, that’s contrary to what I said.

Despite the vitriol in some circles here against Harden, he’s still a very good player and may be happy to shift into more of a distributor role.

That said, I don’t really want him but I’m making the most of a perceived situation - what’s the best direction if we get Harden?

The best direction if we get Harden is we trade KPJ for another solid vet piece, keep Green, Sengun and Bari and let them experience what it's like having a pg on a team in the NBA.

What does that matter? He was still 20 years old in his second year and still logged 26 min per game and sometimes playing over 30 min a game. He was an all star that year. His 3rd year numbers were also close to Green in his second year: 38.2% mid range and 37.1% overall jumpshots.

I don't even know how that argument helps DaDakota especially when we are talking about efficiency.

He's playing from the bench? Oh so that means he's playing against worse defenders as they are bench units. Okay so his efficiency should be higher.

I’ve been a fan of Luka but the way he finished the season put a bad taste in my mouth.

Id be afraid of a Harden 2.0 meaning just an insane amount of high offensive usage w/o running an actual offense and little to no defensive effort.

There was a hierarchy and Kyrie was at the top of that food chain. Kyrie was the big name signing. I don't think that's a hot take, or anyone being surprised between Kyrie and a bunch of young players (brown & tatum), Brad had Kyrie first and foremost.

Plus Kyrie was their PG, so he more control on the shot attempts. True Gordon was out early, so i'll give you that. But if you look at the shot attempts, after Kyrie, everyone else averaged around 10 or 11. There were mouths to feed. If folks follow the celtics back then, this was openly talked about.

In Brown's interviews he literally said he was asked to play off-ball, so he did (what the coaches ask him to do).

One of the reasons Kyrie left, was that guys like Tatum and Brown wanted to be the face of the team. Once the other guys were gone (Kryie, Rozier, Gordon, even Horford) left; was only natural for Brown and Tatum to get more shot attempts, since hierarchy became a lot more clear.

Rozier left for his pay day. Kyrie had options from other teams. Gordon said the right things but because of injury and cost, had to go. The sentiment of the fanbase was like, "OK Tatum and Brown, it's put up or shutup time". To their credit, that duo more or less delivered. The Boston teamball we see last few seasons wasn't there in brown/tatum's early era. It took some evolution of the right personnel to get there.

The Cetics running ball through Tatum/Brown was really the only options left, since the other crop of stars are gone. If we were in Brad/Ime's shoes, we would have done the same. In fact it was maybe a little too depleted that they had to get Derrick White and Malcom this year; who were ball handlers, but with the understanding of being the tier below Brown and Tatum.

Call it alpha mentality or selfish gene, maybe a backhanded compliment, but Tatum and Brown had some of it for sure in their young days. Debatable if they managed it better than NBA stars, but they definitely had it before getting the bag. And in Brown's case, who is underpaid on his current contract, is still looking to secure his big bag.

Sorry but That don’t make sense bruh. I was specifically talking about Jaylen Brown’s second year. He couldn’t crack 15 points on a young squad with unproven and inexperienced players behind Kyrie. I don’t know where you are getting the “mouths to feed” and “competition” from. If a player is competing with team mates and are talking about not getting the ball and scoring enough then that’s a losing and toxic mentality. Many teams throughout history have multiple good scorers on their teams Including the Warriors and Spurs but this didn’t preclude players from playing at a high level making their contributions and getting their shots in. It wasn’t like the Celtics were loaded with experienced vets and elite scorers. And if you’re one of the better scorers you take those openings and those shots when you get them.

What stars are you referring to in that 17-18 season? Rozier was a dude that scored 5 ppg the previous season and a backup.

That’s what a team game is about, if you can score and have the opening you take it. If you know you can make a play you make it. If you need to defer you do it. Whatever it takes to win. Anyone that played organized ball knows this. Reports never confirmed Kyrie leaving Celtics because of friction or envy of the young players. He called out the young players for their lack of understanding of what it takes to win. Both Tatum and Brown had no issues with Kyrie after the fact and defended him.

Anyway back to the main point is Brown wasn’t as good as Green in his second year and the numbers show this.

Nephews here probably wouldn't trade Green for MJ because MJ was still in college at the same age.
