Just a note about the cost of trading up for Anderson. Using the standard value charts:

    Houston gets:
    1-3 2200
    4-105 85
    -------------
    2285

    ARI gets:
    1-12 1200
    2-33 580
    24-1 600
    24-3 88
    ------------
    2468

ARI by 217 or a 3-75 equivalent as an incentive.

The reason most have a problem with cost is valuation of future picks in the standard valuation chart. It typically treats all future picks in each round as equivalent and at the lowest value of the round.

So while I agree this is a low valuation, treating a KC pick the same as a CHI pick, it explains how this isn't as lopsided as some suggest.

Another way to ;look at it is averaging picks 2 & 3 so each is valued at 2400. then the trade is only 17 value points off.

What if he becomes Demarcus Ware 2.0? That's who I've seen him compared to the most.

    Perryman, Rankins, Anderson and Ward.
That's 4 new starters to a pathetic defense. The front seven rapidly becomes formidable and the DBs get that much better.

My favorite idea is trading up to late early 2 (40ish) to get Schmitz as C.

    3-65 265
    3-73 235
    -------------
    500

    2-40 500
    -------------
    500

Other C Tippmann and Wypler, at least 1 of which is likely to be there at 65. But I like Schmitz enough to trade up. Avila MAY also fill that role but he's usually projected at G.

Nick Caserio said it best. You get draft capital to use it on high quality players.

Value only gets you so much...

    I agree with him.

Texans hit their two biggest needs with the top defensive prospect and what many would call the 1a/1b QB prospect.

And for those who are whining about draft picks.... We still have a full draft for next year.

I'd think a HOF career would be acceptable to Texans fans.

Ware was also, if you go by "weighted career approx value", the 3rd best player in that draft.

The last week leading into the draft there was so much negativity surrounding almost all players, warts, holes, character issues, agents.
after watching a bunch of the behind the scenes stuff after Anderson was picked, convinced me that this guy is infectious. He lights up a room. And he is going to give you all of his blood, sweat, and tears. This dude is a leader and a class act.

Got fooled by Deshaun, so I was jaded, but this is a happy big ol man-child until he turns into a dawg on the field. Good for him. Good for us on this board, and good for Houston.

Cowherd is usually lost outside of LA and New York but I think he’s pretty spot on here

He’s not Von Miller. Von Miller was a freaking race car that could bend like he was in the Mattix. Anderson isn’t the alien that Miller was.

Don't really care about comparing the 2 but their 10 and 20 yard 40 splits were identical

    This.

They basically gave up 3 total #1’s for Anderson. That is a lot for a non QB at the top of the draft.

I understand the thought process. I understand wanting to speed up the process. I understand Cal may have pushed for this too. However these two picks have to hit.

The last two drafts and Caserio has had in the first round picks #2, #3, #3, #15.

You can get a pretty good idea with a QB and Anderson… if Green is bad this year, it’s really telling of his future.. same with Stingley.

This is hitting the nail on the head. There are 4 elite type players you can only get at the top of the draft. QB, Edge Rusher, Left Tackle, and corner back. And the Texans have gone all in of those needs. For other holes on a team you can find them in the mid and late 1st round.

So not having a top 1st round next season means the Texans are betting on themselves. They are thinking they will have a better record than Cleveland, which is a great great mentality.

we still have a full draft class next year and we added possibly the best Player in the class along with arguably the best Qb in this class
