For my family it was the opposite. The mainstream medicine and chemo was destroying my Aunts body more than the cancer so she switched doctors. This doctor told her to fast more so her body can purge the old weakened cells and produce new healthier ones (literally the point of a complete water fast). She did this combined with eliminating the usual bad foods like corn syrup, cooking oils, refined sugar, etc. She lived for almost 3 years with pancreatic cancer after doing that.
