I wonder if he Kouba has picked up some velo or something. His stuff didn’t seem that promising from the blurb he was given in the last Fangraphs top prospects list.
I dug into his numbers some today. I am getting way overexcited but his ceiling is extremely high. He could be a Goldschmidt/Freeman type of weapon if he hits his absolute ceiling. He has steadily shown more and more power since he was drafted while maintaining his other ratios. He hasn’t even hit a single infield fly ball in his last 177 pa. He has defensive value. He could be a truly shocking prospect. We will know a lot more in 3 months.
Loperfido really has been smashing everything; the double went 103 MPH and he just hit a 103 MPH infield single.
It's not just Sugar Land. Go look at the stats for Corpus. WHIPS in the stratosphere all over the place.
To go along with the power Loperfido has shown in Corpus, he leads the team in SwStr% at 5.9% for his first 101 pitches seen at that level.
That Hooks clip from earlier this week? Well, it turned out to be a teaser trailer for a uniform reveal. For the last few years, they've worn special "Blue Ghosts" uniforms to commemorate the USS Lexington, the aircraft carrier that's docked in Corpus Christi Bay and is now a museum. The Lexington was nicknamed "The Blue Ghost" during its service. This is the 2023 edition of the Blue Ghosts unis.
For the second straight night, a Corpus starter racks up double-digit strikeouts. Colton Gordon @ Midland: 5 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 10 K
What’s funny is whoever upthread was talking about a sky high whip down there can loom at that line and see a 1.6 whip.
You guys just trying to give me a layup here? There are 10 teams in the Texas League Corpus is 9th in ERA in the Texas League Corpus is 10th in WHIP in the Texas League Corpus is 9th in Batting Average Against in the Texas League Corpus is 8th in K/9 in the Texas League Corpus is 7th in BB/9 in the Texas League https://www.milb.com/corpus-christi/stats/team/pitching?sortState=asc Sure there are a few outliers that been good or okay which I have pointed out before. However, if you want to break it down by the names that most people actually care about or recognize in here.... it has not been a good start to the season for pitching in the minors for the Astros. Small sample size disclaimer of course.
This is true, but the small sample size caveat should have been the first sentence. No pitcher in the Astros farm has reached even 20 ip yet.
I wasn’t disagreeing with the premise. Just joking around that even with a great performance the whip sucked.
I guess I will bring this up since we are talking about the pitching. This is probably not helping my thoughts on the minor league pitching either. I haven't seen anything in here about this and i was going to wait until I heard an update to bring it up.... Anyone seen or heard anything about Jaime Melendez? His first start was really nice. 5 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 3 K , 0 BB Then is next appearance wasn't great. 3.2 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 3 K, 2 BB, 2 HR His 3rd appearance was a disaster. 1.0 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 2 K, 5 BB He went on the IL a couple days after his last appearance, and I have not heard anything about the injury.
