You're telling me it wasn't acceptable in the South? Times change. However the GOP just devolves. "Oh no women don't like being called 'guys'. Woke b****es"

This could be a Midwest thing but I recently heard a female millennial at work use “guys”.

I exercise my Texan privilege and say “y’all” ;)

As a kid I was called that as an insult by a white person. Oddly enough I’ve been called that as a compliment outside of Texas. Once by some black kids during pick up basketball in Minneapolis and last year by a drunk Native American woman in Lewiston, Idaho. She called me “my N—-, “and wanted to know which tribe I was from.

I haven't used "guys" as a gendered term in practically my entire life... nor have I heard it used that way that I'm aware of.

Even ol' woke webster's recognizes the genderless nature of the word.

Language is weird. It shifts and changes with time.

I told her I was Ojibwe which is the largest Tribe in Minnesota. She didn’t know who they were.

So much for native brotherhood ;)

My stepmom is from the Midwest, as am I originally, and she regularly refers to the Mrs and me as "you guys." (And before anyone says it, no, there's no confusion going on there, trust me. lol)

In informal situations I often address groups of women as "guys" and no one has ever complained.

I mispronounce a few words as well, as does my father. Truth be heard, that one brings me scorn on occasion.

I was never able to use the word ‘guys’ when talking to a group of female coworkers. It’s just technically inaccurate to my own standard. Y’all or we’all.
