Just an every day fire drill.

The lesson here is - give everyone bazookas and no one will mess with each other. Worked for the USSR & USA

    It's so depressing isn't it

20% of the population that doesn't want any new laws take up enough senate seats to block any actions. It's insane and frustrating. We need to nix the filibuster asap. Let's rule my majority rule and let's let the marbles fall where ever they may be.

I have been in favor of a simple majority rule in the Senate for legislation. Just a few senators, usually only one or two, can block legislation, which creates the wrong incentives. It becomes too easy to obstruct progress without contributing anything constructive. This leads to negativity, such as saying 'XYZ is bad, very bad' instead of 'I can make XYZ much better.' This then leads to frustration, and a society that views they aren't being fairly represented, opening the door to even more negativity. We are basically at a stage where many members of Congress have nothing to offer but simply to shoot down the other side or bring up boogeyman issues to scare the hell out of everyone into voting for them. The cycle goes on repeat, and we are where we are - a very partisan and polarized society.

In for some changes to the filibuster such as reducing the majority but I don’t think getting rid of it is a great idea. Considering Democrats were the minority four years ago and could be the minority as soon as a year and a half from now I don’t think they will enjoy a narrow Republican majority running roughshod over them.

Yes there are some major structural run problems. I think the filibuster is less a problem on its own and more a part of other problems. Thar said even with the filibuster and other senate rules Biden with as narrow of a majority he can get has gotten a lot done including a gun control bill.

In 2021, Texas lawmakers approved legislation allowing people to carry handguns without a license, and the background check and training that had gone with it.

Serious question, what is the reasoning for this? I’m not looking for a simple “more gunz” or “muh fweedoms” answer. I’m genuinely curious about what the rationale is

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Tuesday marks one year since the sound of gunfire sent youth baseball players, coaches and parents running for cover during a Little League game.

A year later and some of those families say they're still scared, but they're also moving forward...

His 8-year-old son Silas was on the pitchers mound when the gun fire started.

"It definitely shook him up pretty good- you know he couldn’t - he had to sleep with us for a while and he was scared to go to the bathroom by himself," Ferguson said.

He said his family won't go back to Pepperhill because there's still too much trauma from that night.

"A balloon pops or a muffler or something– they have those scars," Ferguson said.

He said it's scary that police were never able to find those responsible.

NRA is one of the biggest donors to Abbott and Cruz. Lobbyist write the bills and the politicians simply do their bidding. It's the society we live in.

Nra controls politics in the republican party.

the belief that more people carrying firearms (even without background check and training) results in lower violent crime rate

Political points...that's it. Republicans eat it up and everyone's paying the price.

IMO having a gun gives a person false security to a degree. Yes, you can protect yourself against a random assailant but we've all been getting ****ed over by the government for decades depending on the administration of course. The purpose the founding fathers had is moot. People could never overturn them even with automatic rifles and bazookas.

I get all that, but surely they have some sort of spin for why no license, no background check, and no training are good things and things that should be promoted through legislation…I’m wondering what that spin is that goes beyond just guns and freedom

I doubt these measures poll well even among republicans and gun nuts…maybe they do for all I know

they also often lead to escalations when encountering someone…people start acting brave when they have a gun, then start shooting the second they feel an ounce of fear

that’s why I just drink water and mind my business…too many crazy people out here who don’t see other people as human beings

How are u gonna kill someone over $40 then return to your date like u just came back from the bathroom? The devil is alive

if someone scammed me out of a measly $40, that’s getting chalked up as a L and a lesson learned

But to actually kill someone over it? Who raised u?

I agree but what I don't understand is the GOP being more concerned with abortions than people alive and living especially the children. I see no rhyme or reason to it except just pandering to their base. If you want to increase productivity and corporations are pressuring you to do certain things, expanding legal immigration and gun restrictions would be the way to go.

they care nothing for the pregnant mother or the mom and child 1 second after delivery

What do republicans do to make people’s lives better other than tax cuts for the rich hoping it trickles down? They do everything in their power to take away rights and just make people’s lives more difficult.

they claim to care about vets, but when it comes to the burn pits…nope…when it comes to slashing funding for the VA…yup

Why I gotta walk around with people carrying guns with no permit, no license, no background check, and no training?
