By the way, regarding concerns about Scoot's defense... if it's true that he has a 6'9" wingspan, that's longer than a guy like Jrue Holiday, whose wingspan is 6'7". With Scoot's work ethic and competitive fire I'm not too concerned about him on that end. I don't know if he'll be an elite, plus-plus defender, but I think he will end up being above average.
Generational athlete for sure. I'm an Amen guy. I think he has a good chance of becoming an all-star even if the shot never develops just by doing everything else well (driving, cutting, playmaking, rebounding, defense). I still take Scoot because I think Amen is more of a project due to the G-League being way, way better than OTE and being probably the second-best preparation for playing in the NBA (after EuroLeague). But I think people are sleeping on Amen and he clearly has higher draft value than a guy like Brandon Miller and is closer to Scoot than people realize. Rumor has it the Spurs are even considering taking him over Scoot if they land #2. That should tell you something.
how can you watch this and not see how his game will translate to the NBA. his game is TAILORMADE for the current league. Excells in all aspects of the PnR which basically is 90% of all offensive sets right now. I honestly am rooting for him to be on the Rockets over Wemby because I feel like him + Green together will be one of the most fun things to watch on television for the next 10 years. That being said obviously if we get the #1 we should select the Frenchmen... but I would be so happy to land Scoot.
Amen has a 6’11 wingspan. Not to take away from Scoots +7 in that measurement - just a little anecdote.
Yeah, that's what people who are down on Amen are missing because they're framing him as "just" a guard who can't shoot. The tools are absolutely ridiculous. He could easily play point forward and guard 1-4 if you wanted.
Hard to see a scenario where if the Rockets dont get the #2 or #1 pick that they dont trade up for Scoot. I think Ime knows that he's got the inside track to getting Jaylen Brown in Free Agency. He already liked the thought of being in Houston and we just landed his favorite coach. If we draft Scoot and he plays behind KPJ for a year to learn the ropes....we could be looking at starting lineup of Scoot/Green/Brown/Jabari/Sengun next year. Get a roaming backup for Sengun that can defend and holy hell.
Definitely something I hope the front office looks into if necessary. There are some teams that are going to be high in the lottery who are pretty stacked with guards. On the other hand, if a team like San Antonio or Orlando lands #2, it's hard to see them entertaining any trade offers. Just going to depend on the lottery
Orlando has Fultz already, who they like. They need a SG. If the Rockets get 5 or 6, Ausar Thompson and Cam Whimore will be there. I could see Orlando taking the #5/6, KJ and a FRP next year for the #2. This is the right year to be in the need of Scoot Henderson. A lot of teams would be open to trading the #2 if the Rockets dont get it. My hopes are: 1. Rockets get 1 or 2. I really don't care which. Wemby is exciting but will probably have an injury riddled career because....they all do. 2. Pistons, Pacers, Magic, Hornets get #2. Viable trade options and teams that wouldn't mind trading with us. 3. Thunder, Dallas get #2. Based on the past I don't think there's much of a bridge here for trading.
But the league has never seen twins of this age and with this kind of upside: Amen and Ausar are ultracompetitive 6-foot-7 guards with video game athleticism, scoring prowess, and near 7-foot wingspans (Amen’s is 6-foot-11; Ausar’s is 7 feet).
lol. Maybe they've been doing stretching exercises. Here are their Pro Day measurements from last October.
The fact is if the Rockets want to get Scoot then they can get him. Even if it is the 6th pick, and Clippers pick add whatever you need to get it done. I would go as far as saying if you wanted to get that done and get Claxton & Bridges from the Nets while keeping Green and Smith you could get that done as well. Let's say the 5th pick, 20th pick, Sengun, Eason, Martin, KPJ, Nets assets, TyTy, Christopher, Garuba (these can be 3 or 4 way deals) for Scoot Henderson, Claxton, Bridges sign Austin Reeves, Beverley, Bismak Biyamo Scoot/Beverley Green/Reaves Bridges/Tate Jabari/FA Claxton/BB Maybe this would be dumb i dunno.
Henderson does have at least a 6’9” wingspan and he is an exceptional athlete, with a low center of gravity and he is very strong. He won’t be Jrue defensively, but he can a good defender - but there will be concerns of isolating on him or Green in the playoffs.
Not judging as I know nothing about Amen, just looking to be informed. Everything I am hearing skill and physique wise just makes him sound like another Ben Simmons. Why are some so high on him? Again, not hating as I am ignorant as hell about him, simply curious.
He's more athletic than Simmons but shorter. His shot is busted. Like worse than Simmons coming out of college busted. He's an incredible passer and as a PG type, he's someone you'd create in a lab. The issue is the shot and some habits. He does the Jeremy Lin/KPJ where he dribbles into traffic and jumps in the air and will figure it out when he's airborne type of stuff. That part isn't the issue because I think it can be coached. But the shot is incredibly concerning.
