Okay having thought this through, I think the Texans were pretty stupid. Why would we trade a potential top 10 pick next year, #12 and #33 this year for will Anderson? Makes no sense. We could have just stayed at 12 or waited to pay less to move up.

ESPN is saying we gave up the '24 Browns pick, not our own.

I look at it like they made the trade to get the QB. If they picked Anderson at 2 then they woulda paid that, or more, to get back up to draft Stroud.

It is an overpay, but the Cardinals obviously did a really good job of convincing Nick that they were going to take Will Anderson if we didn't pull the trigger on that deal. I suppose we could have called up Seattle to see what their asking price for #5 would have been, but it probably wouldn't have been much different. By taking Anderson at #3, you ensured that you were taking the best defensive player off the draft board without having to sweat the rest of the night.

We still have a lot of picks and if you believe we have good coaches that can develop players then we should be able to find some diamonds in the later rounds. We pleased the owners who wanted a qb and we pleased our coach who want the top defense guy on his board

    WINNERS

Houston Texans – There were all kinds of rumors that Houston would pass on C.J. Stroud and take a defensive player. However, the Texans did indeed fill their need for a franchise quarterback. They also used their second first-round pick, and the 2024 first-rounder that they got from the Browns, to jump up to No. 3 where they got edge rusher Will Anderson. So new coach DeMeco Ryans kicks off his tenure by landing franchise cornerstones on both sides of the ball.

Stroud – After a week full of disparaging rumors and questions about his decision-making and processing abilities because of a low S2 test score, some speculated that Stroud could endure a draft-day slide. However, the concerns wound up being unfounded and Stroud didn’t have to wait long at all, going second overall.

Just read the trade straight off of the cardinals website. It’s reported wrong on ESPN. It’s actually the Texans 1st rounder

This isn't the NBA. You don't plan to tank for multiple seasons. Once you have your QB, you should immediately look to add as much talent as you can. Even, assuming, the pick is "top 10" next season, that, in no way, means you'd come close to adding the top defensive player on the board.

To me, there are four premium positions in the NFL: (1) QB, (2) pass rusher, (3) LT, (4) #1 WR (in that order). We have a LT, and the Texans added (1) and (2).

Would love if Joe Tippmann is there for us. I have him over JMS.
