Yep, the best thing the franchise did was that soft reboot once Michael Bay left the series. Bubblebee and this looks like the kind of stuff people like me, that grew up with the cartoon, have been asking for.....
Honestly, I never hated the Bay Transformers, other than the 2nd one that had the stupid twins. At its core, Transformers is just cool robots fighting. Very mindless popcorn action flick. I loved the Dinobots in the OG, but I grew up watching Beast Wars before school every morning so I'm hyped for this one. I'll have to wait until it hits streaming, though. Hard to get to the theaters with young kids, and the wife doesn't care much for Transformers.
Bumblebee was a lot of fun, and this looks a whole lot more like the actual Transformers than the unwatchable Bay crap. I'm in.
For anyone who's interested, watched this last night and really enjoyed it. This is probably the first entry that feels like a live action adaptation of the cartoon since they take sometime to actually give the Transformers some characterization, mostly Prime and Mirage. I thought I was going to hate Davidson but he actually did really well but for old school fans like me, his character is more a hybrid between Cliffjumper and Jazz than anything else. Action is well done and choregraphed, still too much slow mo for me but you can actually tell what's going on as opposed to the stuff from the Bayhem movies. Beast War characters kind of get the shaft but the movie sets up a possible sequel and major crossover, Solid B.....
Agree with @GRENDEL about this movie, saw it Thursday night with my 14 year old son….thought I would be bored but it actually has a good plot and did a great job of staying interesting throughout. Pete Davidson is a pleasant surprise as Mirage. I give it a B+.
This looks like a fantastic film, I haven't seen it but I'll put it on my top 10 while I get to it.... Gonna watch it a little later once I have seen The Marvels....
From a series where the human characters are by far the consistent weakest link.... Somehow this one has the worst ones yet. It's almost as if a prerequisite was not having acting skills. Also didn't realise I was watching a Marvel movie. Avengers, assemble - Autobots, roll out. Ultron - Scurge. Iron Man - human with new Transformer space suit which seems to be Stark tech. Even though a lot of the series is negatively viewed I've always enjoyed sitting back and turning my brain off and watching. This is the only one I'm actively looking at the timer to see how long is left.
Watched today. Not terrible, certainly better than the Bay garbage. Have to remind yourself that it’s made partially for kids. Some plot holes, bad dialogue but overall fun to watch. The GI Joe teaser at the end was fun. Surprised @tinman wasn’t all over it since it was set in the year he peaked, 1994.
