In places like the upper Midwest there could be increases in growing seasons but also increases in pests. More unstable rainfall patterns is also a problem for WI. This past year we’ve seen in the upper Midwest a much wetter year following two years of drought. That’s good but is leading to a delayed growing season and record flooding.
I’m not sure what that piece has to do directly with the post you’re responding to. I’ve said before that alarmist have done a disservice and criticized Al Gore. Even so the results we’re seeing regarding global temps and sea level rises those are within the range of predictions from 30 years ago. The Maldives are under severe pressure from climate change now. In the piece you cite it says that the Malivides government is dealing with sea level rise and appealing for international help to deal with it.
I am unfortunately old enough to remember many alarmist episodes. In the 80s in Germany/Europe, they were predicting that all the forests were about to die. Then there was a phenomenon called "acid rain" that they discussed up and down like it would mean the end of civilization. Etc. etc. etc.
You know how we fixed acid rain killing forests in the Western world.... legislation. You know how we reversed ozone depletion.... legislation.
Often is the case that activists and politicians say things to provoke a reaction that isn't backed by science. The Maldives being submerged in 30 years was one of them. A claim made by the gov't of the Maldives, but not scientists. There is 0 surprise that a politician lied, is there? Worst case scenario is that the Maldives may be uninhabitable but there is hope as new engineering solutions come about, also they are seeing that as sea level rises, it deposits more sand and helps build up a natural barrier that may delay the impact of sea level rise (but this doesn't work if you have a sea wall).
In 20 years sea level has risen 8 cm or about 3 inches. I trust the scientists over your stilt marks.

Those aren't peer-reviewed studies. Here's the satellite data from NASA - going back 140 years they show over a 20cm sea level rise, but this is the change in the last 30 years:
