This is what the 49ers did and almost as much as the Chiefs gave up to get Mahomes. You must not believe what Vegas is telling you and that's the Texans are tied for least amount of projected wins next season.
You have to consider that if the Falcons, Raiders, Commanders or any other team that bottoms out without a qb, will not make a trade with you even if you offer them the world. Mahomes, Watson and Lance were not the prospects Drizzy and Caleb are. Big difference. Texans will have to finish with the worst 3 records. It's the only way. And we know Demeco. He ain't having that.
I would take QB Jake Haener in the 2nd or 3rd round. He is a fast processor. Yes, he does not possess elite physical traits but what he can do is run your offense efficiently and accurately like it should be run. Get all the other talent you need with your other picks.
I can respect this sentiment, but I also think that missing on a QB in the first round can set your franchise back 3-5+ years. I'm not a draft expert, nor do I pretend to be one. But if I'm Caserio and don't love any of the QBs enough to justify a top 10 pick on one, but I wanted to get a guy with some upside to compete for the position this year, I'd rather take my chances on Hooker in the very late first/early second or draft a mid-round guy. You don't feel as locked in at that point and can easily justify spending a first rounder next year on one or spending big money on one in in free agency. I say this, but I'd also be fine if they took Stroud at 2 or any of Stroud, Levis or Richardson at 12 based on where they're going in mocks and the perceived value of those QBs. I just don't want to see them reach, nor do I want to see them lock into a guy they don't trust or think they can develop into a quality starter. They just need to use their draft capital well and get production out of this draft.
I’m not advocating to force anything, but it’s hard to swallow Davis Mills being the biggest investment they’ve made at QB the last 3 years. Last year was understandable but the Top 4 QBs are good enough prospects to roll the dice on IMO. Caserio hasn’t proved he is smart enough to keep getting the benefit of the doubt.
Actually the chefs only gave up a 3rd and future 1st (next year) to move from 27 to 10 and get Mahomes. What we would give up would be AT LEAST double that and probably triple or more. Plus if the QB is really rated as high as they're supposed to be teams may not want to move off them AT ANY PRICE! I've been saying this for a month or two but people just think it'll be easy peasy!
The QB talent in the draft does not end after the media darling QB's Young, Stroud, Levis, Richardson, and Hooker. There is really good QB mid round talent in this Draft. I'm talking about Jake Haener, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, Clayton Tune, Max Duggan, Jaren Hall, Tanner Mckee. And if you look at past draft's there is a good possibility that several of these QB's are going to have better careers than the top 5 media darling QBs.
The Texans need to add star level players. Bijan is a star level player. You dont pass on star level players because of need. Plus Bijan has better hands than most WR's in this draft. You could use him like the 49ers use Deebo or McCaffery
You pass on running backs when you can get better value at pretty much every other position on the field unless Bijan is a multi-year All-Pro and/or a potential Hall of Famer. Otherwise, he's almost guaranteed to be overdrafted if we chose him at 12. It's the equivalent in value of trading up from 25-35 up to 12 unless absolutely certain he's going to be a star. It would be a clear sign of overconfidence and not a wise strategy. Caserio doesn't have the stones to do it anyway because he has the exact opposite style and hedges to the point of making mistakes.
You know what else set us back 3-5 years? Going with Tom Savage, Ryan Mallett, and Brock Osweiler rather than actually committing to a QB in the first round and developing the team around that player. It's of course no guarantee of success, but what choice do we have? A top ten QB is pretty much a necessity to win the Super Bowl. I would rather us try and fail by taking a top QB than overthinking and picking Tyree Wilson.
Truth! Punting on the qb thinking you can manipulate the draft next year is just as maniacal as forcing a qb. The same 49ers team is the best example that choosing the wrong qb won't set you back for 'years'. Only Texans brass and Texans fans like to live in the old NFL. Jimmy G/ Lance/Purdy all cross each other within a 2 season span. The key is hitting in your many many other draft picks, which I think will happen. Seems like I'm one of the few that loved what Nick did last year.
If Bijan is a "tier 1" player and the others are "tier 2" or lower then it's better value EVEN at RB! I've seen a credible case made that even if he doesn't sign a 2nd contract that 4 or 5 years of "elite" production is still better value than 10 year+ of above average production at another position. And NO single draft pick is going to make or break us for the next _ years if we have a competent GM and scouting staff. San Fran being a prime example.
I think Bijan is only one of 3 potential star level players in this draft. So yes I would pick him and be very happy.
Not if you finished with a projected 5.5 wins. Pretty sure Reid gave up two 1sts and a 3rd for Mahomes and RS gave up two 1sts for the pervert.
