What is the reasonable expectation for a FULL REBUILD?

Discussion in 'Houston Rockets: Game Action & Roster Moves' started by SamFisher, Apr 26, 2023.

?

As reasonable fans how long should we expect the FULL REBUILD to get to .500?

I deem the rebuild to have started in late 2020, when Morey, DAntoni, Westbrook, Harden all demanded out.

As reasonable Rockets fans, what should we expect/demand of our team?

@YOLO claims you are all young fools who don't understand FULL REBUILDS which apparently take 10 or 20 years, in a good century.

    I disagree, but let's see

Your final "important" draft + 3 years for that player to develop.

We need to be back in the playoffs by the 5th season. We are 3 seasons in. We didn’t start from nothing; we started with assets. 5 years is reasonable.

3 years to collect enough high draft picks, 3 to 5 years for enough of them to "git gud" that you can build around them and contend. (Depending partly on luck, partly on making good picks, partly on player development.) I'll vote 5-6 years because I tend to be an optimist when it comes to sports, but 7-8 years is also a reasonable possibility.

OK, that seems like the 7+ year option then.

IDK Kings took 20 years while the 76ers was supposedly 7 years.

But the 76ers may be rebuilding after this season.

5 players on the court at one time.....so 3 or 4 veterans
mixed with some (not all) of or young kids goes a long way.

Those of us old schoolers didn't see many stars
get traded. Now teams get many draft picks
for that star demanding a trade.

Kinda depends on quality in the drafts and
having multiple first round picks in that same
    quality filled draft

Yes, I deem the Harden era as having ended when Harden demanded a trade and was traded a few games into the regular season.

    Every one is different.

The fact that we should have 3 years of top 3 picks should push it forward a year or two, and that we have had 9 FRPs in the last 3 years......

That should be enough to sprinkle in the right veterans this year, and then add smartly going forward....

Normal time is around 5-6 years and some all the way to 7.....I agree with your timeline, as soon as we traded Harden we were rebuilding even if we were lying to the fans and saying we were building around Oladipo and Wood.....seasoned fans knew the truth there.

nope. You still have everything mentioned previously that all absolutely matter. contracts and vets that absolutely impact the full rebuild process.so no that's not when it actually started.

your full rebuild isn't actually started when you have a super max contract on your books. or an over paid FA signing in wood who isn't in any future plans. Guys like dipo and KO,PJ who clearly aren't in the full rebuild plans.

I wonder who's remaining from that 2020 roster. a whopping 3 players, kpj. kmj, tate. I wonder why

My hope/expectation when this all started :

Tank hard for 3 years while we own our own pick and manage our cap to open up at the end of those 3 years.
Use cap space wisely to fill out roster around our 3 drafts and MAYBE sneak into the last play in spot in the 4th year(this upcoming season) depending on who we drafted/signed.
Take the next step and become a 6-10 seed lock in year 5.
By year 6 be taken seriously as a top 5 seed.

So, this would be our final important draft right? and we are 3 years away from expecting development.
    6 year plan.

There is some luck involved but 3-5 years?

The Kings, the Pistons, the Hornets, the Magic, the Knicks, the Timberwolves, your perpetual lottery teams, that’s…bad? Bad luck? Bad drafting? Bad signings? Bad front office? Bad ownership?
“Why do we keep ending up in the lottery?”
“The Magic are still rebuilding 10 years later after Dwight?!”
    “The Hornets did what?!”

Eh, .500 is easier to achieve.

Teams can accident themselves to .500

Lets say 7 years from, tearing to down to being a 50+ win team
