Read edits up above, dude, please. I do like "idiot savant", because that means a totally different thing.
Here's a fun stat: We are approximately 15% into the season right now. Dubon already has 28 hits. Last year he had 52 for the whole season. He's already achieved 54% of his hit production from last year 15% into the season. That's fun. Still really, really ready for Altuve to come back and man that 2B, though. Edit: I guess to be fair I should look at what Dubon has played, and not what the Astros have played. Dubon had 243 ABs last season, and has 85 so far this season, so 54% production on 35% of the at-bats. Still great.
This dude is a funny guy. Reporters ask him about hitting streak, he responds jokingly with something like I pray everyday. This may not be a joke to him when he was asked earlier in the season about Altuve. He laughingly said something like he is taking Tuve's job. All the other leagues have Most Improve Player, Dubon......
Something most everyone here knows but won't say is Dubon is much better defensively than Altuve. He's a shortstop with a pretty strong arm playing 2nd base.
And - I've been worried about the right side with Abreu and Altuve manning the infield without the shift. I think we will be ok - but Dubs has been filling much more space than Altuve normally does. Can't wait to get him back, but it will be nice to have Dubs as a defensive replacement.
I don't think that is even in question regardless of who will say it out loud. Dubon is making it feasible that Altuve DHs more which is a good thing. But overall Dubon is a one trick pony with the bat. He is not nearly as good as fans think because he does not walk or hit for power. Altuve Bregman Yordan Tucker McCormick Meyers Brantley Abreu Diaz Pena Should all have much better and more productive offensive seasons when it's all said and done. That said, he is important and I am happy he is on this team.
What's probably the most confusing is that almost never strikes out, so he must recognize the pitches. He just chooses to swing at them anyway. Maybe he can start being more selective.
