Adrian Woj: Free Agents would love to play for Ime Udoka

Wemby would certainly be the biggest move/outcome for the Rockets. Right now the Rockets are a team with a good coach and some projectable young talent but still just one of a number of such teams… adding Wemby would make the Rockets the unquestioned best young team in the league.

I can't believe how non-chalant people are about Sengun's potential to score 20+ points, 10+ rebounds, get 5+ assists and 1.5+ blocks. I've never seen a non-PG stacking up to such stats and not being seen as a future or current All star. Show me even a 6'8 guy like that who doesn't play any defense and he's still an extremely valuable player in the NBA. It's very strange how low he's rated here when most people outside the Rockets saw Sengun as the best young player on the team for most of the season.

Alpe is going to adapt to Udoka's toughness better than most on the roster, he's used to it. You're going to see the defense hold up better on the wings and point of attack, and that's going to help Alpe since the defense won't be breaking down as constantly. You're going to see Udoka teach him how to get low and stay nimble as athletically possible while guarding the perimeter. You're going to see Udoka teach him how to confront drives to the rim more swiftly. Bringing the same toughness he brings on offense to the defensive side of the ball without fouling.

Udoka's experience with Duncan and Horford is going to help a lot. Between Jabari and Wemby there's not going to be much difference in their styles on offense, so I highly doubt we go with two guys who can't create efficient shots for themselves. You're going with one of those guys and Alpe brings things to the table that neither of them are close to being able to do.

My real question is: why do people have such a quick trigger about trading one of our guys when even the 3 of them (Wemby, Jabari, Sengun) playing full minutes would not be enough depth at the 4/5? You supplement them with a Nerlens Noel or Al Horford and you start having the makings of a great rotation. Yes one of them might sit for 10-20 games if they get beat out by others in the rotation, but in case you forgot that's how depth works on a playoff team.

Making a solid head coaching hire is a better strategy than hoping you win the lottery, especially since the lottery is so random at this point.

Now if the Rockets are fortunate enough to win the lottery, they win the off-season by a landslide.

Wemby isn’t a center, if we play him against some of the heavyweights in the league they’re going to break him. That doesn’t mean he can’t be a defensive anchor, but he needs to be able to roam.

It is crazy how some people think just because he is tall he is automatically a center. The guy is a bean pole and does not really have the frame to put a ton of meat on his bones. He is more like Durant than any center in the league.
