Who in the actual f**k is afraid of Steve Kerr? He looks like the kind of dude who yells at kids for selling lemonade at an unlicensed lemonade stand!

More videos (defense mostly) and again, sorry if these were shared before:

I'm a dummy who only watches Rockets basketball, so I'm learning a lot about how BOS ran things just now. I will say I'm not sure we quite have the personnel to run that same kind of defense. Seems like neither Sengun or Jabari can be that Robert Williams/rim protector role (though maybe Jabari can simulate some of it, but he seems more like a defensive Tatum to me?). Just speculating though. Udoka can do different things, and maybe our 19-20 year olds can do new things. Or I can stop trying to speculate and wait to see what happens later this year, but where's the fun in that? :p

edit: Even if we don't have the personnel, I'd still prefer that kind of switching defense (even with Sengun) vs the drop we did with Silas

I think you might be the one with the disconnect between what you like and what pro athletes like. I am not even Houstonian, but in the past 2 decades Houston has been pretty great at getting players to come and play there. Other than the premiere destinations (LA, NY, Miami) Houston has not struck out with anyone.

The big misses are Bosh (stayed in Miami), Butler (went to Miami). The other big names like Lebron, AD, Kawhi, Durant, Kyrie, all ended up in LA and NYC.

We have had WB, Chris Paul, Howard, Tmac all choosing to be in Houston, that's more big names than almost all other cities other than NY, LA and Miami.

NBA officials told the Rockets and other teams that the league considered the Celtics’ discipline of Udoka for an improper relationship with a staff member to have been sufficient and saw no need for Udoka to sit out beyond his season-long suspension.

“The Celtics made a determination that he should be suspended for a year,” Silver said at a meeting with a group of Associated Press Sports Editors at the NBA offices in New York. “We reviewed that determination, and we decided that seemed like a fair discipline under those circumstances. And then, when other teams — it wasn’t just the Rockets — asked us if he then would be available to coach for next season, we said he would be based on our understanding of that record with the Celtics.”

Silver was unsure if Houston had access to the findings of the independent investigation and deferred to the Rockets to address their examination of the situation. But he said the Rockets had sought information from the league about the findings, as well as Udoka’s status.

Silver said the details of a settlement involving the Celtics, Udoka and the employee involved in the situation were “confidential.”

“I know our lawyers had conversation with their lawyers,” Silver said. “I don’t know exactly what they had access to.

“I think what we’re dealing with here, as often is the case in a workplace situation, there’s confidential settlements, there’s protection of the individual employees who may not want his or her name as part of the public record. They’re entitled to want those rights protected as well. So, the league tries to navigate through it. I’m not saying to take our word for it. I would say in this case, we had access to the investigation by the Celtics.”

Though Silver had pointed out that the Rockets were not the only team to check into Udoka’s status and the investigation, he did not specify which other teams were interested or if the Brooklyn Nets were dissuaded from hiring Udoka to replace Steve Nash during the season while Udoka was still suspended.

“I accept … the premise that the league does have a role to play in deciding in deciding when it’s appropriate for someone who has been let go from one team to work for another team,” Silver said. “I think in this case, based on our review of the investigation, we made a determination that we felt what the Celtics had done was fair. In this case, a year-long suspension seemed appropriate, from our standpoint.”

Silver said it should be consulted and weigh in on whether one team should hire an employee suspended or dismissed by another, as it did with the Rockets’ and others’ pursuit of Udoka. Though he cited “information” that informed the NBA’s position, he also said it was not appropriate to share many details of the findings of the independent investigation performed on the Celtics’ behalf.

“It’s something we thought about,” he said. “I think society has changed a lot. It used to be, if something happened at one team and somebody was let go, you might have assumed why that person was let go but it doesn’t necessarily mean other teams would understand why that person was no longer engaged by that team. I think the league accepts we have a broader responsibility now as a league of teams. That’s why we thought it was important to make an independent assessment whether what the Celtics had done was appropriate.

“It could go both ways. If the Celtics had suspended (Udoka) for multiple years, does that mean he can’t work for 29 other teams for a number of years? If they had set a shorter amount of time, does that mean he is employed in good standing? I think at the end of the day, it is incumbent on us to look at the individual circumstances of a case. I think the league has ability to have access to information the general public does not just because of the league rules. It doesn’t mean we’re in position to make that information public.”

TMAC, PAUL, and WB were all traded to Houston. Heck even Harden was.

Only Howard fits the bill, and he flamed out spectacularly. Paul did sign his extension, which considering how he performed after getting it, he should have been wearing a ski mask.

BTW, the guys on the list who you said we struck out on are probably some of the greatest basketball players ever. So not getting any of them at all is a pretty big deal.

Look, there was a point in time when the Rockets did get FAs; I am only asking what happened that changed that.

...but honestly, which city is really winning the FA attractiveness game? LA is about the only city that REALLY benefits from this. NY certainly doesn't anymore...Miami would obviously be a fun city, but the team there is decidedly NOT friendly to people just coming there to party so what's the point? Houston DOES have world class training and medical/rehabilitation facilities and that is I'm sure a good reason for a professional athlete who job it is to stay healthy...but honestly I think the "would you rather live here or there" conversation comes long after a bunch of other far more practical concerns like "can your team afford my contract", "can I expect to win at this city?", "how does the team want to use me and is that how I want to be used?", "if your team doesn't win, does it hurt my brand or will it be blamed on someone else", etc. The size of the sponsorships in local or adjacent markets is not near as much of a differentiator as it was in the old days because branding is more global now. Giannis can be a world famous athlete despite being in Milwaukee - same with Luka in Dallas.

I've seen him make dumb plays just like his teammates. Also, how come his high IQ hasn't transitioned to his defense?

Does KPJ get the same leeway from you when he makes a bad pass?

It was consensual. Inappropriate? Yes. But it didn't warrant a firing. The Celtics overreacted & it should've been handled internally

you’re excluding a ton of context to crap on Houston

CP3 is never traded to Houston in the 1st place if he didn’t want to come here…he ultimately opted in to his deal to facilitate a trade here due to our cap situation, but he was having free agency meetings with several teams including the Clippers, Spurs, and Nuggets

same with Russ…OKC told him to give them a list of where he wanted to go, and the list was Houston or Miami

T-Mac still lives in Sugar Land

Harden had zero connection to Houston before being traded here, and the city is basically his home now

if the Rockets are good or have another star on the roster, they are in play for the top free agents…most NBA cities can’t say the same

I’m not gutting the team for Brown. I’ll wait until he’s unrestricted

We will have to give up Green, Jabari, or a combo of like KPJ + Sengun

We almost there baby. This team needs one year under Ime to define themselves and then go get the big fish. They aren’t ready for a player like Brown yet

If you had access to the full investigation then sure you would know for a fact.

    Why?

    Udoka didn’t do anything illegal.

You (nor i)actually don't know anything about what he did or didn't because the report/investigation is nonpublic, privileged etc.

All the Twitter / Reddit rumors are just that - not the kind of thing you'd trust if you were in the real world.

I don't know if the Rockets got a copy of it or not, neither does Adam Silver.

It's possible they did. Or it's possible they talked to someone who saw it.

It's also possible they didn't. Wouldn't be entirely out of character.
