You can generally count on two teams moving up. And I believe 7 out of the past 8 years, the top pick went to one of the teams with the best odds. It’s a pretty good system for trying to help bad teams get better while still giving an opportunity to the teams that don’t outright tank.

    HUGE hypothetical here.

    Not saying I would but...

If we landed the top pick and Orlando offered..

    Paolo
    Wagner
    #6

    Would you?

I edited to just the 6. Doubt they would offer both pks. But who knows? Might be passing on an all time great, but Paolo and Wagner both are studs. Would depend on how much the GM's believe Wemby is going to revolutionize the game.

Not a flex at all, just completely missed any hint of sarcasm in your post. And of course there's no definitive answer about this, so no harm, no foul.

I am too much of a "bird in the hand" personality. Wemby has an amazing skill set, but I am just so scared of his body being able to hold up, I would take the offer. I may still do it with just the 6. A big part of it is also that we have so much cap space available right now, you could put together a contender in one offseason.

    Harden (FA)/Black (#6)
    Green/KPJ
    Wagner/KJM
    Paolo/Jabari
    Sengun/Garuba

Harden starts at $46M, so there is still quite a bit of money left to plug a few other holes. If Harden signed for 4 years, you would expect everyone else on the roster to be improving over that time to make up for (and exceed) his decline.

If Wemby turns out like Zion and is injured all the time, the Magic would not.

No wonder Tilman is praying for Victor.

We have a 14% chance at Wemby. Anybody who tries to rig this lottery is gonna end up at the bottom of a lake. Too much money involved to get away with foul play.

How do the Warriors pay for their team? Or the Clippers? Are you saying you don’t want to get the best players possible because you won’t be able to afford to keep them? Do you only want to acquire players whose value will go down?

Sorry to ask so many questions. The logic just does not compute with me.

The what if is not going to deter any team with a chance at him. Again, said I wasn't advocating for it, but it would be a lot to turn down.

No, it was an honest question. I have thought in the past that the better a team is the more it will suppress numbers for players, the opposite for bad teams.

I have thought that maybe that's what they have attempted lately with KPJ pushing a square peg into a hole causing the team to lose while pumping his stats for a trade. i dunno

I could write more on this unfortunately I don't have the time to figure out the team building philosophy. Regardless it was just a question out of curiosity not to disparage getting 5 of the top 10 players in the last 2 drafts ;)

I still see him ending up in Charlotte. Just my gut. Of course I want him here but don't get that sense.

It's too much risk so while being feasible a No 1 for a past No 1 is not likely.

    Heads going to roll.

I get that. Unfortunately, you probably can’t keep everyone for their entire careers. At the end of two years, or three, you might have to make moves. Hopefully the team makes the right decisions on who to keep. But I don’t think you should not take advantage of opportunities because you are worried about keeping everyone together two or three years from now. Anything could happen between now and then.
