From a strategy standpoint, this doesn't make sense. If he wanted to run in 2028, he should've backed out months ago before Trump started the negative barrage. But now DeSantis probably doesn't want to show weakness and get out of the race but he also doesn't want to actually run at this point given Trump's strength. When it comes to Trump, you either have to go all in and go to war with him or just stay out.

But the mealy-mouthed opposition to Trump doesn't work and you only end up damaged by the time the whole thing is done. Same with the other people running in the primary. You can't win by not directly criticizing Trump.

Maybe he is still waiting for something else to come out on Trump or whatever. No idea.

You can see the problem, people believe the overly-credulous political press - the same one that elevated Rick Perry, Scott Walker, Tim Pawlenty, and all other sorts of boring dudes or noxious dopes because they need a bothsidesism narrative and its better to focus on horse race politics than the profaned and profoundlly broken system of institutions by which the powerful remain powerful.

Dopes like Pudding Ron who read them and his sociopath brigades(and their various online hangers-on) and who then believe they can "control the narrative" by hoping there's enough non crazies out there who will go along with the fiction hat are "capable administrators" for example, in spite of all the book banning and the gay bashing and the Disney fights. But, there aren't, and he isn't.

DeSantis has virtually no shot, but whatever shot he does have, it's in 2024. He can't win because he has no charisma and he's a pretty horrible human being, but independent of that, 6 years is a long time and he's going to run out of ridiculous anti-woke things to do to keep his name in the news. More rational versions of him like Brian Kemp will quickly take his spotlight. So he has a ticking clock on his popularity and a deadline for his Presidential hopes. He also has to run on the hope something else (legal issues, jail, etc) takes down Trump and leaves him as the only GOP alternative. Right now, he has the benefit of a very fragmented field of candidates with no name recognition, where he can hold 2nd place to himself for a while.

Trump basically told DeSantis to not bite the hand that fed him or he’ll deeply regret it

DeSantis is Trump’s lackey…Floridian Ted Cruz might want to sit this one out

I think RD is going to stick around the fringe and not commit, then when trump is in too deep in lawsuits the party will turn to him and beg him to take the party to the finish line, he doesn't ruffle to many feathers of the maga crowd and their won't be any sound bites of him attacking the beloved cult leader..........he will be the hero and wont have to much blood on his hands. Months ago I would have said RD would win, but he`s gone so far right I am not sure that plays into mainstream america, looks like it works great in Fl but not sure about the other states

Unfortunately for him, this has been the Puddin Ron (losing) strategy the whole time and Trump has already been indicted, booked and fingerprinted and he .. increased his lead.

Walt Disney Co. sued Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday, alleging the Republican governor has waged a “relentless campaign to weaponize government power” against the company.

The federal lawsuit alleges that a campaign to punish Disney over its political views was “orchestrated at every step” by DeSantis and now threatens the company’s business.

The move dramatically escalates the drawn-out feud between DeSantis, who is expected to become a top Republican contender for the 2024 presidential race, and Disney, which is among Florida’s largest employers.

The lawsuit was filed on the same day that a board of supervisors, picked by DeSantis to oversee Walt Disney World’s operations, moved to undo a development deal that it says Disney struck to thwart its power.

The panel unanimously voted to declare “void and unenforceable” that development deal, which was approved shortly before DeSantis replaced the Disney-approved board with his preferred supervisors.

The lawsuit called that action the “latest strike,” saying the development contracts “laid the foundation for billions of Disney’s investment dollars and thousands of jobs.”

“The government action was patently retaliatory, patently anti-business, and patently unconstitutional,” Disney alleged in the civil complaint in U.S. District Court in northern Florida.

The board also voted for a resolution to effectively ban Disney’s Orlando-area parks from imposing future coronavirus-related restrictions.
