A lot of the quarterback scouting conversation is reminding me of the 2006 draft. Vince Young, Matt Leinart, Jay Cutler were picked in the first round. I think Bryce Young will be better than those guys, but unfortunately Lovie Smith wanted one more win on his resume.
I've likened it to the 2018 draft already in previous posts and I feel like that one may be a bit more suited with how many different QBs are at play within the first round. That was a solid QB draft, if you went home with the right QB.
I could buy that; I fell out of love with the NFL for a while during the Bill O'Brien years so I missed about 6 years of drafts. Baker and Darnold over Allen and Rosen over Lamar... yeah that's the challenge of drafting when there isn't a good consensus on QBs.
Haven’t heard the 2 teams thing although that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. But Caserio said they don’t utilize S2 scores in their evaluation, not that they don’t or can’t get them. But if this were the case, I assume Stroud’s team could release the correct scores to the teams directly. Just saying they don’t have to refute anything publicly.
I really hope we don't draft some QB not named Young or Stroud with our 12th pick. I'm all for building up defense if we don't take either of those two at #2. Our defense is horrible. I'd be happy with any needed position other than QB if it's not Young or Stroud. I'm sick of waiting for something to cheer about, and I'm sick of watching a horrible defense.
That's a good point. The Texans wouldn't have an official way to know what the real score was or if it was accurate. But also, now that I'm thinking about it, I think it's interesting how quickly they came after Brady Quinn over the manning academy, but never said anything about the S2 scores. I wonder if they truly do want a slight drop in positioning. Mulghetta's clients seem to force their way out of losing situations pretty quickly, so maybe they hope he slides to a team with a more established path? Maybe, I have no idea.... but it is interesting to me though that they've been pretty quiet about it.
I heard the Caserio interview about the S2 scores. I call complete BS about not having the scores and not using them. All the teams were given the scores after the Combine. And if they did not look at the S2 scores then they should all be replaced. Of course your going to use the scores in evaluating prospects. General Managers can fib or mislead and will do so especially when you are essentially trying to shop the pick(Stroud).
So if all the teams are using the scores and the reported scores are correct, Stroud should undoubtedly free fall correct?
If the score that has been released is correct, then you have a red flag to consider in your evaluation of Stroud. If you are the Texans, up until the draft you should be speaking glowingly of all the QB prospects. You don't want any of the QB prospect's value to drop. Especially Tuesday and Wednesday when a lot of the frameworks of pre Draft trades are put together.
Check out what the co-founder says. "We wanted to go through a very exclusive period with two clubs. And it mainly stemmed out of LSU. We started with LSU in 2013 and we did a lot of beta testing, a lot of just grunt work to set up the original battery and then we worked with two teams that are frequently at LSU for a three year period just to make sure we were measuring what we said we were measuring. It was matching out with what front offices and scouts were seeing. And then we were kind of protective of that. And we wanted to work with teams that would play nice in the sandbox and were interested in analytics and understanding data. And with that we went to one team in every division and it was kind of a club of GMs that knew each other. And then there came that tension, where it's like, hey, we need to grow. And they wanted to keep it at one in a division and where we landed, and I think we will be there probably indefinitely as far as I'm concerned is two teams per division, so half the league. So that some of these teams do feel like they have an edge or a little bit of an advantage by having access to this and not just giving the scores to everyone."
I can only go off of what he is saying in that he doesn’t utilize it in his evaluation rather than other tools. Interestingly enough the video @Cannonball just posted said the scores are only released to half the league. With regards to talking up the QBs, Caserio really hasn’t done any of that up to this point.
Stoots just wants a QB taken with 2nd overall pick. He doesn't care if the prospect is Christian Ponder, Josh Rosen, or Jamarcus Russell.
