Jalen Green actually has a work ethic and a willingness to recognize his weaknesses and try to improve. It would be a lot easier to be as high on KPJ if I thought the same about him. I think he is what he is, I don't think he will ever recognize his own flaws or mistakes, nor work hard on fixing them. At best he will improve slightly through repetition. Every single time you hear people in the organization talking about how the team needs to improve their work ethic you should be mentally hearing "Kevin Porter Jr. needs work on his work ethic". We have plenty of information to know that's not a problem for Green, Jabari, Sengun, Tari... Edit: Also why are we now even having this argument in a thread about Cam Johnson who doesn't even play one of the guard positions? Jesus Christ, just rename the whole GARM "Argue with Bobby about KPJ" at this point
It doesn't show based on his performance. He's still one of the worst defensive players in the league, he's still not a competent ball handler, and his efficiency actually managed to get worse from his rookie season. But of course, you are here to push a narrative that has nothing to do with reality. Let's hope the fabled Jalen Green work ethic one day becomes apparent....he has a LONG way to go if he hopes to even be as good as KPJ was at 22.
He'd come in as one of the best defensive players and the second best shooter behind KPJ. If he's not good enough for the team, we're going to have to get an almost entirely new team.
Paying a role player 90-100 mil would be sheer stupidity for a team who can barely win 20 games. Just idiotic and be a massive failure of an off-season
Like I said before a lot of y’all are the ones you tried to laugh at when the rockets were contenders and teams handed out idiotic bloated deals for players nowhere near worth it. Just laughable to think a role player getting 100 mil is now the right move. Lmfao. Just stupid waste of resources and means you struck out on actual difference makers
I think Cam Johnson is a viable free agent target. Folks will quickly remember how hard it is to get talent again.
True but Eason is at 34% as a rookie which isn’t bad and should improve. I don’t think Johnson has shown enough after 4 years to warrant a huge deal.
Also Johnson has been shooting on almost 3X volume on 3s. They aren’t the same players, and you maybe disappointed if you hope Eason to be a floor spacing oversized wing. Johnson fills a shooting a need and feels like folks have forgotten you generally have to overpay sought after free agents. He isn’t a can’t miss free agent but I think he’s worthwhile.
I've always liked Cam Johnson. He's the kind of role player every team wants. It's just a matter of how much you pay him.
I think we can all agree we need shooting defense and size at the 3. Our SF options: KJ Martin 6’6” (22) 3pt 34% career/31% 03’ makes $2mil, will make $10-$12mil, negative defender Jae’Sean Tate 6’4” (27) 3pt 30% career/28% 03’ makes $7mil, plus defender Tari 6’8” (22) 3pt 34% makes $4 (rookie contract), plus defender Cam Johnson 6’8” (27) 3pt 39% career/40% 03’ gonna make $20-$25mil, plus defender Given Tari’s position versatility to play minutes at the 4, and KJ and Tate’s trade value, I think Cam/Tari at the 3 would be amazing over the next several years.
Real question, maybe not something you can answer, but hopefully someone can, what is the price of an average role player of Cam Johnson's caliber? I would think $90-100 milliion for four years is pretty darn average now-a-days lol, especially with the knew deal looming that will push player salaries even higher. I'm not talking about what you feel they are worth, that's totally different, I'm just asking what are the normal price range now-a-days.
it's relative. If he was playing for a contender yeah you pay someone like him to be a role player behind your stars and raise that contender ceiling. what you don't do is overpay ala parsons for him to be one of your better players on a rebuilding team and expect him to make a difference being paid $100 mil. when he doesn't. add in the fact that you have a number of players who play the same position that need minutes and likely another high draft pick who needs to command minutes. yeah definitely not a great idea to allocate $100 mil there when it should be used for an actual impact player in a position of need
$30,000,000.00 $27,600,000.00 $25,392,000.00 3 year 83m declining deal. Shorter deal which will expire the same time Jabari's next deal kicks in, possibly allowing another spending window. Completely bones BK if they match with huge repeater tax bill, makes them worse if they don't. Win / Win / Win
guys in the last 2 free agencies to to get at least 22.5 mil/yr on a deal -KD, Kawhi, Julius Randle coming off a career year, Steph, John Collins, Demar Derozan, CP3, Mike Conley, Kyle Lowry, Shai, Trae Young, Jimmy Butler, Ayton, Dame, Harden, Garland, Zion, Lavine, Ja, Towns, Anfernee Simons, Booker, Jokic, Beal, and Brunson Jarrett Allen got 5/100…Norman Powell at age 27 got 5/90…Tyus Jones 2/30…Bobby Portis 4/49 20 mil/yr u can justify for Cam Johnson since he’s a wing and that type of player tends be more sought after, and he’s also an elite shooter plus not a liability on defense…dudes in this thread talking about handing him a max tho…Lol, seriously?
