Which is good for 70th rgt now in all of mlb (OBP). So it's over a small sample (which I mentioned) but he's been getting on-base. Can he keep it up is another question. I wouldn't expect him to continue hitting at that clip however.
[positive post] We've now won 5 of 6 and won 3 of the last 4 series. We've come from behind in later innings for 3 in a row. Bullpen is coming around. For the Braves series, 0 hits, 0 runs, 3 walks, 11 K's, and 3 saves. 9 1/3 innings. 8-4 over the last 12 games, all against teams above .500. 6-3 on the road this year. No reason to think we can't stick it to the rays this week. [/positive post]
Right now, it looks like Dubon was incredibly hot to start the season. Dusty seeing hot start put him in the leadoff spot, and he's been hitting about what he has done for his career from the leadoff spot. Luckily, Dubon has been getting a single often with the extra AB Dusty is choosing to give to him over Tucker. I'm going with time saying Dubon is much more like his career numbers than the 1st 7 games of this season.
Hard for me to knock Dubon considering what a disaster 2nd base would be if he was the Dubon of last season. Hensley has been a massive disappointment. A couple weeks ago there were talks here that the Astros should have kept Aledmys Diaz. Check out his numbers so far for the A's.... Aledmys Diaz .151 AVG, .215 OBP, .434 OPS Diaz has basically been as productive as Hensley.... Sure, I can pick apart Dubon's stats all day long. However, in this case I will just sit back and hope he can keep it up another month or so until Altuve is back.
We need to remember that Hensley is still a rookie with 86 career PA. He had a great cup of coffee last year which raised our expectations to a likely unrealistic level. He is getting less and less playing time due to Dubon's fast start. If he doesn't work a walk yesterday between Pena and Meyers strikeouts in the 9th, then Julks never gets up.
All true... but he's on a team that has World Series expectations. He won't have much of a chance to stick on the roster striking out 32.7% of the time. With Altuve down he had a great opportunity and hasn't capitalized on it so far, and with Dubon and Julks starting hot the Astros have 3 roster moves coming up when Chas, Brantley, and Altuve are ready. Not sure he gets much of a chance to turn it around.
If he's the odd man out, he should just do what he did last year... continue to showcase great plate discipline, cut down on the K's, continue to play multiple positions. Odds are there will be another injury or opportunity for him to be back. He's great organizational depth and is hopefully at an age where he doesn't get all that impacted mentally by having to be sent down.
Just FYI if you listened to Bleacher Blums (or just like Geoff Blum) - he has another one called Bleav in Astros that is purely on Astros. It’s very good.
It is surprising that with as bad as Dubon has been with the bat lately, that Hensley has been significantly worse.
Dubon was hard at work packing on the pounds and refining his approach during the off-season while Hensley was too busy making public appearances around town and being Pena's sidekick.
Yes. Apple has to approve it which takes 24 hours to 2 weeks. We are past 24 hours but short of 2 weeks. After it's approved one time then it will distribute pretty much instantaneously. It's also possible that we goofed something up and that's why it hasn't distributed yet. As I said before this was as much for just training as anything else- making sure the equipment worked etc. What's cool is that we got 3 positive pieces of feedback so far in the first go round which was exactly what we wanted/were going for in the show. 1) Good straight analysis from 2 guys who know baseball and Astros history. No stupid, brash in your face obnoxiousness, I dig it" 2) survived - and loved! - the first podcast- all 2 hours (we know it's too long) 3) Surprisingly good first effort. Look forward to next week and yall finding your footing. None of these were from our family and friends. They all told us how much it sucked and what all we were doing wrong (I didn't need them to tell me I said Right and you know too much- I was ready to strangle myself by the end.
No doubt. There are two ways to look at all these stats 1- what has he actually done- and that is be a slightly above average hitter in the real world. Which is awesome compared to what we expected 2- what does a deep dive into the stats tell us he's likely to do? Well, that looks ugly, but on some level who cares (as long as Dusty isn't fooled) he's only treading water for us until Altuve gets back hopefully then he goes back to 26th man on the roster (or 25 if they carry a 3rd catcher).
Hensley is fine and you can generally trust him to not be a slob at the plate. He isn’t getting consistent opportunities which I believe he needs. Same could be said for Diaz, who inexplicably can’t buy a PH appearance even with a defense only 3rd catcher on the roster.
We have people b****ing and moaning about Alex Bregman who don’t realize Bregman is a better hitter at .230 than dubon is at .330. I thought we were past the obsession with BA. I can’t complain about what Dubon is doing, it’s absolutely ideal and he’s maximizing the opportunity. It just bothers me when people act like he’s playing at Altuve level. Although I will admit, with the rule changes it does feel that BA and Dubon’s skill set are suddenly more valuable than they were in previous seasons.
