Collins never provided all 3 of those things in one season and never provided GOOD defense in any season. His shooting has been declining over multiple seasons and his defense has been only passable in one of 6 seasons. The Hawks are DYING for a PF who can do those things simultaneously and consistently. If he could do it, they wouldn't be trading him. Multiple coaches, many sets of teammates, different styles, nothing has worked and he apparently can't motivate himself to do it. To think that he would do it on a team where he'd be guarded more than ever before in his life and with a coach that does not care about ball movement anymore than the Hawks' coach is kind of crazy.
Without a three point stroke Collins would be very mediocre. He's got a decent post game and is a good interior finisher, but not enough to be a primary option. With Sengun on the team the last thing we need is more post scoring. I'm not sure a Collins and Sengun frontcourt works at all. Dual bigs struggle in today's league. Even Al Horford with his high IQ, defense, and leadership couldn't fit next to another dominant big like Embiid. Collins and Sengun are far from the players that Horford and Embiid are.
Neither have any of the current Rockets. I tend to believe the NBA League-knowers who actually watch Hawks games and have him rated as decent, rather than crazy biased Rockets homer who doesn't know anything, but YMMV
Collins-Sengun would work well actually. Yes, he needs his 3 pt back to 35%, but off ball movement lobs are his specialty. With his size, a PnR like Gordon/Jokic with Sengun would do great. I still don't want to send any major assets over for him but the fit is there. Problem would be Jabari and what this does to his fit. If he slides to the 3, what are we doing with Eason/KMJ? etc...
I've seen him a decent amount over the years. This year especially since I've had Bogdan, Okongwu and Aj Griffin on my fantasy teams at different points this season. 2 years ago I'd be freaking out at a chance at Collins. His defense during that one deep playoff run was actually elite. Unfortunately he never got close to that level again. He also lost his 3 point stroke after injuring his finger. He was also an insane rebounder the first 2 years but that just kinda faded away. Nowadays, he's ok. He's there and does some good stuff but kinda just fades away on the court even with 2 elite distributors making plays for him. That said, if he can be had cheap, like Gordon, KJ, Mil pick cheap, then I'd be down to give him a shot. He's not good enough to screw that tank. Just make sure to tell him we're tanking before he even gets on the plane. We don't really need the cap space cause there isn't anybody to sign. The Bkn and Mil picks this year have to be traded eventually cause we don't need anymore Garubas to develop. Low cost medium reward move ain't so bad. My biggest hesitation comes from the fact that a lot of his issues might stem from a lack of motivation and we're not exactly the best culture around. If this guy was on the Heat he might be an allstar. At that price though, it's worth the risk. I'm pretty sure he'll be good again when his contract is due.
I've never considered Gordon a big. In Orlando he was a SF/PF tweener. Yes, he's a lob target but his game is drastically different from Collins on both ends of the floor. Also, Gordon's role depends heavily on Jokic being one of the best passers/players in the game. It's not a Gordon/Jokic frontcourt that is successful, Jokic just dominates next to anyone. Denver went to the WCF before Gordon was even on the team. It's a big ask of Sengun to step into the Jokic role. Jokic is a truly unique player. Playing next to Vucevic in Orlando, who is a pretty decent passing big, Gordon was not nearly as effective.
Annnnnd that's why you don't give up premium draft assets like the nets pick just for the sake of making a panic move.
Didn't Collins get busted for PED's ? I've heard many around the league use , but is bad that he got caught How much of his good defense wad based on that. Has that been related to injury issues ? Haven't watch mutch of him . Depending on price I'd bite .
he shouldn’t even be a choice at all if Stone trades for him, he’s engaging in organizational sabotage
Meh not my choice but there are worse options. He has improved a lot defensively. He is only 25, and has a history of being a good scorer.. 3 years left on his deal and I think he would thrive elsewhere.
A lot of 19 year olds would. In fact mostly all do What’s Collins excuse. Oh wait he doesn’t have one
Sorry Rafael/ Patrick - didn't mean to strike a nerve Stay the course you guys are doing great - Logan Roy would be proud!
Yeah giving up picks and players for that mediocre player would be the right course! All $125 mil of it. What are they thinking not pulling the trigger!! Gotta listen to folks like you on cf’s!
hey look, I’ve always thought Collins had huge talent. At this point I think he’s gonna end up as a solid, but underachieving player. I actually don’t think he has a bad contract, but honestly I’d rather give any minutes at the 4 to Jabari or Tari. I don’t see how Collins is a fit with this team.
