Whatever magic we found in Atlanta I hope translates to the next 3 vs Tampa. Those guys are 13-0 at home.
The Brown interview talked about how they want him working with Astros' hitting coaches. I don't think they feel he needs more AAA at-bats. By the end of the season, he'll be playing plenty assuming he's producing, but it seems right now, they want to either motivate him or work with him on the side. Whether or not he gets April at-bats is likely not a huge issue for the team - if Brown wanted to force the issue, he'd just send away Salazar. Part of it may have to do with his earlier disinterest in catching, but who knows if that's still the case.
Salazar isn’t getting his AB’s to speak of its Maldy. If you get rid of Salazar there’s even less AB’s for Diaz bc oh Noe’s, what if second catcher gets hurt.
I was there. They had a chant going I could hear from the opposite side of the stadium. Braves fans did drown them out with boos after a little while though.
If they really want a third catcher, Lee's thrown out 33% of attempted base stealers so far in AAA. Hopefully Salazar stays up long enough to get the MLB medical insurance for life, which takes something like 50 days in the majors.
We definitely need a backup plan going forward for first base in the event Abreu doesn't come around. If Hensley continues to post Maldy like offensive numbers he is not the answer as a backup first baseman as well. I think we need to look for ways to keep Julks on the roster.
Unfortunately you are probably right. I am just not impressed with what we have seen from Abreu so far. Hindsight is 20/20. Hard to believe he has yet to hit a HR so far. Even Yuli in a part time role at Miami already has a HR this year.
My buddy told me health care for life at day 1. They might have changed that or he was mistaken. He’s a head D1 coach so he knows lots and lots of guys that made it to the show.
Not quite true, but close. "Do MLB players get lifetime health insurance? After 43 days on the active roster, a player can vest his pension, and just one day after that, he or she can receive lifetime healthcare coverage.Dec 5, 2022"
