I don’t think it’s fair weather fans. I think it’s hoopleheads who don’t understand small sample size- put too much weight on an early start to the season- and who vastly vastly vastly overweight batting average. Dubon could easily hit 300 and be a below average hitter. He doesn’t walk, he doesn’t hit the ball over the fence, and he grounds into a bunch of double plays. that’s a sub par offensive player even if he hits 300, which he could but likely won’t.
Glad to see him back. . Interesting problem to have on fitting him in the lineup when he gets back, hopefully he hasn't lost too many steps and he can rake a little bit. Lil' sumtin' sumtin'.
Modified to remove team names for copyright reasons but you can now get yourself a Yordan trade shirt.
Another lefty with an exceptional eye….I don’t care if he’s a singles/doubles guy that is a win in my book
The more I read it, the more I think of Pena last year. Dude finally changed his swing and stopped chasing slider away and ended up doing great things. Hope we get the same again..
Jake Meyers OPS on the season is up to .729, with a .346 OBP right now. The most impressive thing about his recent play is is K/BB rate, over the last week since he was starting everyday he has 3 walks and only 5 K's in 27 PA, it's been against some really good pitchers also. During his extended run of dog s**t last season and this season he was striking out in 37% of his PA. With him and Julks taking full advantage of their chance the Astros might find themselves with a really good problem when Brantley and Chaz (who was also playing the best ball of his career) are back.
It's a small sample, but actually this year he has been getting on base (not just putting it in play). His OBP is .350 rgt now which is 70th in all of mlb (which is in the top 25%). Can he keep it up? Only time will tell.
I mean, in maybe an esoteric sense when you mean beauty. An OBP roughy .014 points above a BA isn’t super beautiful by my standards nor is an iso of 0.047. It’s completely unsustainable in a sense of Performing above average unless you are just going to hit 340 or something. Which I contend isn’t possible without some HR’s in todays game unless you are sort of a once in a generation freak like peak Ichiro. But, it’s beautiful I guess in the sense of knowing something is going to happen.
Is this podcast not going to be available on the Apple podcast app? I couldn't find it but did find another Astros podcast named Orange Fire that had a few episodes back in 2018. I typically listen to Bleacher Blums but they don't talk about the Astros near enough since they are trying to be more national and multi-sport.
