Typical conservatives trying to push their religion onto everybody else.

Gets triggered by school teaching crt but is fine forcing religion down students throat. It's already dumb we have in God we trust in the pledge of alliegance what's next telling kids that they need to wear a cross and pray before starting class?

The ten commandments being displayed somewhere doesn't harm a child's development. A biological male groomer in drag trying to get close to young children might.

And that's why most parents with common sense are not like the leftist woke mob in this subsection of the forum that gets outraged by the ten commandments, but thinks male groomers in drag around young children are a sign of "diversity and inclusion".

It might not harm an individual child, but it might harm another. What is the Muslim student in Houston supposed to think when they're displayed in every classroom? Or the Hindu student? Is it ok for them to be made lesser than by their school and state?

It harms the nation at large to promote one faith over another, especially in a religiously diverse state like Texas. I mentioned how religious conservatives risk opening a can of worms by pursuing state-promoted displays of one type of faith. I thought the same in the recent Supreme Court case about the football coach who prayed with his students on the field before and after games. Christian conservatives loved that verdict. Will they still love it when a Muslim basketball coach leads his team in praying toward Mecca before a game in Michigan? We need a balance between the private and the public to coexist in a nation as diverse as this one. The state tilting the scales in favor of one religion disrupts that balance.

I say all of this as an active member of an Anglican church.

Useth thou the AR-15 so that thine child is mutilated beyond recognition and must therefore goeth to earth in a closed casket.

    Amen and pass the ammunition.

Take notes of anyone like @Salvy who claim to be “libertarian” but are trying to argue in support of this bill.

I don't want religion to b rammed down kids throat. Period.

I don't practice the religion, why the fk would I want that in school. If I wanted to hear about the ten commandments, I would go to church or look it up in the Bible not at school.

Of course conservatives doesn't care about the other religions otherwise they would pass this bs law.

What's next the kids are forced to read the Bible and confess their sins to a priest?

If u want to display the ten commandments it's only fair u require the other religions teaching also for equality. But again u shouldn't mix religion with education, that's what churches and temples for

I imagine libertarian theocracy imagined by these folks harkens back to the days when Brigham Young had 50-60 wives as patriarch while leading an armed rebellion against the US Army.

    One can dream...

The idea does not adhere to tenets of the religion.

Practice does not adhere to the principles of the country.

This is religious oppression, being labeled as religious freedom.

This is culture war distractions so we don't fight a class war.

    Rinse.

    Repeat.

Sincerely bizarre that we have so many people living in such a small bubble, so wrapped up in this silliness that they either can't or don't care to see what's happening, so that the overlords can live like gods instead of kings rather than their neighbors and themselves having a more fulfilling existence during our brief stint on this little rock floating through an endless expanse.

It doesn't have to be this way. How can we begin to turn the car around?

Aw ****! I forgot about hypothetical situations!

Well, better just use school to indoctrinate kids. Wait that sounds familiar...

A student who abides by the ten commandments will not be any worse off for doing so (quite the opposite).

Given the garbage students are exposed to these days, posting the ten commandments is harmless.

If there was talk of enforcing obedience to them, that would be different.

This issue is largely academic to me, as I'm against government schooling entirely (just give out vouchers like we do with food stamps).

The GOP is losing the war on abortion rights and getting trampled in elections because of it. They have now pivoted to LGBTQ+ and trans. The whole drag queen story hour started in 2015. Now the GOP has something new to be outraged. The average Fox News viewer is almost 60 years old. Looks Ike there is a rise in early onset dementia.

Their points didn't address at all the obvious issues of state sponsorship if religion, so I wouldn't say their points were any good, actually.

Hey if they want to post the 10 Comandments then they should be required to post these too

    THERE ARE SEVEN FUNDAMENTAL TENETS
    I
One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.
    II
The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.
    III
One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.
    IV
The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one's own.
    V
Beliefs should conform to one's best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one's beliefs.
    VI
People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one's best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused.
    VII
Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.
