Nick Caseiro addressed this. And this is not even remotely true. You really think an NFL team won’t work with the best agent/player combo in the league? Casual Astros fans used to say the same dang thing about the Astros due to the Beltran/Boras situation. Guess who the Astros face of the franchise is? And guess who his agent is? These are business men, not high school girls. The Texans were voted by players in the NFL as being the 5th best facility/place to play in the league by the way.
My preference is to trade down from 2 and up from 12. It won't happen, but it's my preference. 5 and 6 while collecting 2nds and 2024 1s.
Who will overdraft based on misinformation? Or fail to draft based on misinformation. It happens every year.
Slowik is running a version of the Kyle Shanahan West Coast Offense. You need a QB who makes quick decisions and has pin point accuracy. In the past 15 years Kyles used the following QB's to run his offense. Matt Schaub RGIII/ Kirk Cousins Matt Ryan Jimmy Garappolo/ Trey Lance/ Brock Purdy The only QB's that did not work out were the one's they drafted at the top of 1st round (RGIII & Trey Lance). All the other QB's had a resurgence in their career.
Hannah Storm was on ESPN this morning discussing the possibility of the Texans passing on Stroud to trade for Trey Lance. She said Nick Casserio was driving her crazy.
I don't see how y'all can continue to point the finger at everyone else while excusing the Texans from any sort of criticism. Like it or not Mulugheta and his sports agency, Athlete's First, represent many top QBs and athletes and a well-run franchise is still going to do business with them to build a winning team. Only a dumpster fire franchise would let history get in the way of setting your team up for future success. And don't forget how we got here in the first place. The Texans controlled their draft destiny and Caserio couldn't even tank correctly as GM by ensuring that the Texans lost that game against the Colts. There were reports that the Texans tried to trade up to #1 with Chicago, so it seems like they really don't want to draft Stroud. We've seen this story before in 2006 and 2014 where the Texans punted on drafting a QB to the detriment of the franchise. It seems like the Texans are going to make the same mistake again. If the stories are true, Caserio is setting up another black coach to fail.
Jeremy Fowler: “This is the most unpredictable team in the draft right now. I’ve talked to multiple general managers who said “I have no idea what Houston is doing.” The safe bet right now, the feeling around the league is Bryce Young will be the first pick so CJ Stroud will be available to them most likely. They should consider it. We’ll see what they do. There’s a feeling they could trade back right now. Indy at 4, Tennessee at 11 could move up. Then you look at an option like Trey Lance. Hannah Storm: What?! What?! Fowler: San Fran is in a position where they could trade Lance because they signed Sam Darnold. Sneaky good signing. I’ve talked to multiple teams who believe Darnold will play meaningful snaps, even as early as week 1. Storm: So you’re telling me the Texans would pass on CJ Stroud and would consider trading for a guy who’s only played for 8 games? Fowler: I’m saying teams are making the connection as an option if they don’t go QB at 2. Storm: Why wouldn’t they just call up Baltimore? Fowler: That would be the sensible decision. Nick Caserio has told no one what they’ll do. All options feel like they’re on the table. Storm: Well Nick Caserio, you’re driving me crazy.
No one is excusing the Texans from any sort of criticism. They have made mistakes. However the worst kind of mistake is the second time you make it. Let's not have that happen with a Mulugheta client. We are still digging ourselves out of the hole that he created the first time we made the mistake of dealing with him.
I hope Mulugheta signs their favorite generational QBs next year. “I’m out on Caleb Williams. I’m out. I’m done.” “I’m out on Drake Maye. Screw him.” “I’m out on Marvin Harrison Jr. Can’t do it.” And when they don’t land those two QBs … “Well yeah, the rest of this class isn’t that good. 2025 class looks really strong! Let’s wait til next year.” or “Shanahan won with Jimmy G and Mr. Irrelevant! We don’t need a QB! We need a guy we can plug in, who fits the system! We can get that guy in the 5th round!” LOL Why get the guy when you can get just a guy? Who the hell needs a franchise guy? Why sign Peyton Manning when you have Matt Schaub? “Matty’s a dang good kid, working hard, battlefightin’ every day, we’re comfortable with him John. We like the guys we have in our building.”
I keep going back to Demeco on record saying they were going to get a QB early in this draft. All the media reports saying they have zero idea what the Texans are doing.
I remember that too. I hope it's not a case of Caserio and Demeco not being aligned. But I wouldn't be surprised if that's what's happening. If so, that's why I always thought Caserio should've been fired when Lovie got fired.
The number of people who think drafting a QB high and paying them big bucks makes them a Franchise QB is silly. It's like the failures every single year are completely forgotten. They are just as likely to be "Ruin Your Franchise QBs."
