Richardson only started 1 season. Levis started 2 and was worse his 2nd season when he was supposed to show progression. I'm betting Richardson would have had a breakout 2nd season.
Well that's what we're looking at with the choices we have this season. I'll go with Richardson because he can become dangerous if put in the right situation.
This is exactly my thought. If Slowik and DeMeco decides its worth trading for him, they would effectively believe that "Kyle couldn't work with him, but we can". This makes me a little uncomfortable... essentially, we have to believe that Kyle Shanahan gave up THREE 1st Round picks for a guy, let another veteran QB go, and has another QB currently not even sure if he'll play this season. Yet he's going to give up the only healthy QB on the roster for pocket change??? No thanks... this doesn't make sense for the 9ers. Which means Trey Lance must be a lot worse than we think/know.
Levis was hurt and ran the style of offense the 49ers run. You're right though, Richardson certainly has the talent to breakout in a big way had he stayed another year.
Shanahan apparently wanted Mac Jones with the rest of the org wanting Lance. But the fact that they are considering cutting bait this early is a concern.
I state data and facts while you are led by biased emotion. Facts say Levis played better than Richardson. As a matter of fact, Levis’ QB rating went up in his second year. Let’s take Levis’ first year and compare it to Richardson’s first year. Completion % Levis- 66% Richardson - 54% TDs/Int Levis - 24 & 13 Richardson - 17 & 9 QB rating Levis - 148.3 Richardson - 131 You have zero clue what Richardson’s second starting year would have looked like. After seeing him for a full season, every DC in the SEC would be developing schemes to counter what he does best. You are purely guessing.
If he's worse, I'm guessing Slowik knows that. The far more likely story a Lance trade would tell is that Purdy is a) their preferred choice (no shine off of Lance); b) reasonably expected to play in '23. You just cannot underestimate how much these teams value good, cheap QBs. Purdy would be significantly cheaper than Lance through 2025.
It may be what the Niners want - but I'd be surprised if that was the asking price. If it is.... I'd absolutely consider one of our '24 first round picks.
Wonder if some of the luster coming off Stroud says maybe he isn’t doing quite so well in the interview process.
The Texans "Sources" are so all over the place right now. We have heard Levis, Anderson, Tyree, Stroud, Young, Trade back........ "The Texans are taking whoever is left between Stroud and Young" "The McNairs are now involved" "Texans are shopping the pick" The media doesn't know jack.
Kinda like the winner of the long drive contest in golf is never actually on the tour. Hitting it a long way but not in the right place doesn’t translate to success.
