Amid considerable curiosity about whether he will continue to coach the Raptors, clarity has yet to emerge regarding Nick Nurse’s future in Toronto. What I did pick up over the weekend, interestingly, was the first whiff of pessimism I’ve heard regarding Houston’s chances of hiring Nurse even in the event that he and the Raptors part ways. Beyond the possibility that he stays in Toronto, perhaps Nurse has other options that are not plainly apparent. – via Marc Stein @marcstein.substack.com https://hoopshype.com/rumor/rockets-not-likely-to-hire-nick-nurse-as-next-head-coach/
If the Raptors immediately cut Nurse loose then fine, make him a top priority. But we don't even know for certain they will cut him loose. And, in the meantime, teams are losing series and other head coaching positions could open up. Right now, my rankings would be: 1. Ime Udoka (if the rumors are true that Jaylen Brown would be enticed to follow him here) 2. Kenny Atkinson 3. Frank Vogel At this time, I would be disappointed if they hired any of the head assistants they're interviewing. I wouldn't necessarily object to that if we had an established team, but I think with these kids we need an experienced leader to take the reigns.
There are so many coaches enjoying success now, who were in the Rockets system in the past decade: Nurse, Finch, JBB, Sampson… I’m not saying he’d be my first choice, but I am 100% sure Mahmoud will follow in these same steps. I don’t know who the right hire is, but FO better gets this right. I don’t to be in three years like: ‘man, I wish we kept Mahmoud as a HC…"
Just outlined something the tanking rival is doing. https://bleacherreport.com/articles...-quinn-for-hc-interview-amid-ime-udoka-rumors
Or that wants to coach at all. I would be very surprised if Nurse’s tenure with the Raptors end this summer and the first thing he does is interview for another head coaching job. Not saying it can’t happen, but I think you often need time to get your head together. I don’t think the Rockets can wait around on him.
That's pretty damning for a coach who basically allowed his players (not named Sengun) to get away with anything they wanted. I wish him the best, but he was a truly awful coach here.
Once the new coach is hired and the next season starts i think people who wanted Silas to stick around or were ok with the job he did here will realize just how bad he actually was. Silas was ass since the beginning even before he had a bunch of young guys. When he had a team full of vets he still coached the worst team in the league. Dude is a trash head coach.
Yeah the sample size here kinda makes me laugh. Don't know how representative this can be of all players when so many are self-selecting out of the survey. For what it's worth though, Nick Nurse only received 1 vote for "coach you want to play for":
I'm just worried Tilman has a number he wants to pay for a coach and won't go over that. He'll set a low number and the best coaches will walk. That means no Nurse (who I like and know he is not available yet). If he puts out a salary of $3-4 mill then. Would someone like Udoka take $4 mill? (Side note: did people know that Popovich leads with $11.5 mil a year. $11.5 mill! Also, it's not easy to find all NBA coaches salaries in one place I thought someplace like sporttrac would have it but no luck.)
If Vogel/Nurse/Udoka/Atkinson are the front runners, then Tilman is willing to pay up. Those guys are not coming for that kind of money.
