Why the f**k is Diaz even on this roster, I'm sick of Dusty's petty BS. I'm not worried about the team as a whole, we've started the last 3 seasons basically the exact same way, but it's nonetheless very frustrating when the team isn't even gonna give him competition in case we need a non zero from catcher. Dubon has started to strongly resemble Mauricio Dubon again the last 4 games (groundouts and lazy fly balls), although I'm sure after his hot stretch he's guaranteed to start until Altuve gets back. We don't exactly have many better options at the moment, but I would hope Dusty starts treating him like a utility player again when Chaz gets back.
Brown needs to send Salazar back to AAA and force Dusty’s ****ing hand. Maybe put Maldy on the IL with some sort of injury
Seemed that the plan was Salazar was just an emergency backup catcher so that Diaz could get lots of at bats at DH with Brantley out. If so the GM and manager are not on the same page.
If he does that then Diaz will literally see no ABs. Dusty gets nervous about burning a backup catcher to hit and then oh no he gets hurt. What do ya do??
No kidding, I'll be at the game (again) tonight after watching yesterdays punchlessness in person. EVENTUALLY Garcia HAS to have a decent start, ... right? .... uhh... right?
Right. Well doesn't the other guy have like a 7 ERA too? Of course, if he does like I think I remember he does... we should be shutout through 6-7 innings, naturally.
Big picture - they lost 4-2. Pitching gave up 4 runs in 9 innings with a bottom of the rotation starter on the mound. Hitters scored 2 runs vs a SP who was an All star in 2021, got CY Young votes in 2020 and 2021, and has averaged 4.1 bWAR per 30gs the past 3 seasons w/ Altuve, Brantley, and Chas hurt. Dusty actually pinch hit for Maldy in the 9th. (Probably wrong hitter but it's progress) Losing sucks but this wasn't a bad loss.
Definitely progress and it wasn't a bad loss. We just had untimely hitting. Would have had a chance if we had Altuve and Brantley instead of Meyers and Julks. The only person I'm really concerned about is Pena. He looks more lost than anytime last season. Epitome of sophomore slump.
Somewhere at a Blue Jays message board, someone is saying the exact thing about Berrios lol. Watch both pitchers pitch a gem just for the laughs.
Boy it would be nice if Diaz caught him today and he had a great game. That’s the kind of nonsense Dusty pays attention to. At least it is when it supports what his gut tells him to do.
Agreed. Completely unjustifiable to pinch hit a guy that had pinch hit 3 times this season (including the 2 prior nights) and had gotten on-base all of them with 2 hits and a walk. Instead, lets go with the guy the hitting coach says is pressing too hard and trying too hard to prove himself, and put him in a situation where he's likely to press too hard and try too hard to prove himself. There couldn't be any possible logic to that.
