Shouldn't the comparison rather be Jabari vs. Claxton? I think Claxton has developed very nicely and he seems to be a very good defensive player. If Jabari can become as good as "Claxton + 40 % 3-point shot", while Alpi goes 20/10/6 with a steal and a block and a three per game, wouldn't that be an awesome combination?
Jabari is not a center today. He can moonlight here and there, but then that would squeeze out Sengun. These are two completely different scenarios Im envisioning. I'd jump on Claxton if Harden comes back and Jaylen Brown becomes a reality for this team. Unfortunately that might mean that Jalen, Alpie, KJ, KPJ (good for you!) would probably be gone, but then that would initiate a new era of Rocket basketball that can hopefully lead to immediate winning. If that doesnt materialize then you have to hope that guys like Sengun can make similar strides of improvement year over year, but that would still involve the growing pains of development. It all hinges on who the vets are that get brought in.
I prefer Claxton too and I not only like Sengun, I also couldn’t care less if KPJ is a Rocket or not.
We are now in the off season ! Our best chances of making any great trade is with trading Sengun, Porter and Tate. Y
If u'd actually watch the games instead of boxscoring, you'd quickly realize Claxton was played off the court since Sengun started with 4/4 fg on Claxton in first 5 minutes in both games, and the Nets didn't match Claxton's minutes with Sengun. But keep boxscoring brother.
It was Bruno first. Myles Turner became the favourite later on to replace Alp. Claxton time now. Claxton is 0 points/4 rebs/0 assist/0 steal/0 blocks against Embiid's 8/15/5/1/1 at game 2 (halftime) now. How many carcasse we will see before Sengun rises to stardom?
Sengun scored on JJJ, López and Mobley as well does that constitute as abuse too! Lol You guys are so easily amused and entertained.
did you watch the game? From the box score, he took a total of 2 shots and only played 21 minutes? Anybody know why?
I watched the game and watching Kings-GSW now. He is not a Play-off caliber player yet, huge discount if you compare to Alp. No different than comparing Bruno to Sengun. Same strange mentality..
Other thing is it seems that GSW's centerless days will be over after this year' series (regardless to Kings-GSW result). Edit : I don't know how much relevant this post in this thread.
For the sake of Turkiye, die hard ROX fans and everyone who has attached themselves to Alpie as HIM I hope you're right.
Look, I don't know if he will ever put up stats like Jokic or overpower people like Embiid. But if you look at where he is now vs. a 20 year old Sabonis, he is tracking way ahead. And I would argue Sabonis is a cornerstone player for his team now. He has helped turn the Kings around. It's very well possible that Alpi at 21 will already surpass Sabonis' production in his absolute prime, at 27. Alpi at 20 vs. Sabonis at 20 - it's no contest. It would take a surprising step BACK in his development for him to not at least surpass Sabonis. With the right coaching and a year or two more under the belts of our young guys, I don't see why we would be worse than the Kings. Alpi can (and will) surpass Sabonis. Green can be better than Fox Bari will be better than Keegan Murray Tari will be better than whoever the Kings' fourth best player is. And that doesn't even count the top pick this year, and 60 million of cap space. I think we would be crazy to break up our young core.
I appreciate the enthusiasm. All the factions that have cropped around here are able to pull stats out and then make comparisons and growth arcs for their guy. There is an air of the expected when it comes to the development of young players and sometimes things stall out. People expect the curve to be easy because of X,Y,Z. Sengun has things to work on, but if he never improves (which I doubt will happen) then he's still a very serviceable player. I've just not gone head over heels mainly because of a philosophical difference of opinion about what wins in the NBA nowadays especially in high leverage playoff atmospheres. Alpie comes back next year with a 3 pt shot and more its GREAT for everyone that roots for him and would have guys like me satisfied.
So I'm not on the Alpi hype train (and you know this) but I can definitely see him being better than Sabonis. After watching two games of SAC vs GSW I have to say I am mildly impressed with the Kings. Even with GSW having an awful road record this year, I was pretty sure that they would take one in Sacramento. The Kings have beat them with a combination of tenacious/physical defense and great ball movement leading to good shots. I mean they are doing this with the guys that are supposed to be their shooters (Huerter/Lyles) not shooting particularly well in the past two games. We'll see if they can take one in San Fran. Not sure how far the Kings will go in the playoffs but they would not be a bad model for the Rox to follow considering our current personnel. Along with the comparisons already made: Green - Fox Alpi - Sabonis Jabari - Murray Tari - Barnes Plug in playmaking point (like #2 draft pick Scoot) - Huerter Bench: KPJ - Malik Monk JC - Davion Mitchell KMJ - Trey Lyles So I agree, with the addition of a few pieces either by draft, free agency, or both I could definitely see the Rox as an upgraded version of the Kings. Is that a good thing? We'll see if it's good enough to make it out of the first round of the WC playoffs. Either way I don't think that it's a bad starting point for the Rockets after all of this losing.
I would say Green needs to make a playmaking jump to make the Fox comparison. At Green's current trajectory he most likely will be a better scorer than Fox but not at the same level as a playmaker. Fox can be a full time pg if he wants. Fox's handle has always been superior since he joined the league. He also is a smaller player so that would make sense. Sabonis and Sengun really are very similar in almost everyway. Not confident in their range, average to poor defense, playmaking savant for a center, great footwork and touch around the rim.
