Vogel isn’t my choice…. But it’s funny you said to ask Vogel, because he won a title in LA and they as an organization haven’t done anything sense.

I'm ok with Vogel, he's light years better than Silas. He's a great defensive minded coach that will mesh well with the young guys we have here. I think this bunch of guys we have are kinda soft so a softer spoken guy like Vogel might fit the bill. I'm not impressed with Nick Nurse at all, he runs his players into the ground with his damn 7-8 man rotations in the regular season. I'd love Udoka but I doubt Ime would want to come here. Kenny has a horrible lifetime win and loss record and sorry Cassell, I don't want another lifetime assistant coach getting his head coaching cherry popped with us. We need a defensive minded coach, no reason we should be one of the worst defensive teams in the league.

This has to be about what you expected though. There was a good chance an elite coach wouldn’t want to work with the current situation with the Rockets.
Second, Stone really doesn’t want to have a head coach that has more power or influence than he does. Stone is a very insecure person.

Last, unless Nurse (or maybe Udoka) is named coach, the next coach won’t be here in 3 years. Someone like Vogel will help show the young players how to be professional until they get sick of him and get him fired.

Nurse or Udoka would be my choice but most of the others are fine play holders if the top choices are not available.

There isn't that much difference between a "good" coach and a "great" coach. Just don't hire a bad one. Fit is probably more important than anything when it comes to coaching. No coach is good for every situation.

Think you mean the 2019-2020 Lakers in his first season after they made the trade for AD.

in 2020-2021 they lost as the 7 seed in the first round to Phoenix and then missed the playoffs the next year.

the 2020 title was the COVID year, they won a tournament, not a title.

We can’t let Silas traumatize us to the point we’re willing to settle and talk ourselves into Vogel.

3 different organizations have fired him already. The true definition of a retread. Vogel is labeled as a defensive guru, but his defenses are not as advertised without a bruiser/anchor big (Hibbert, Dwight, McGee) — RIP Sengun. It’s also well-known he needs a strong supporting staff to cover for his atrocious offensive philosophies. Unless he can bring both Phil Handy and David Adelman with him, I hope this is all posturing.

Udoka, Nurse, or Atkinson. Don’t overthink it Stone.

One would argue that the Lakers winning a title during the bubble was a mickey mouse one.

Yes he seems like the kind of coach a Fertitta would like.

Let's please not get a coach who is a zero on one end of the court. Vogel has 0 imagination on offense and you guys were WHINING for 5 years about our stagnant iso offense even though we were breaking historical output records almost every season. Don't you remember that? I know you're fed up with loosing, but don't give the farm away just cause you're desperate.

Perhaps the conversation with Vogel also included the need for an elite offensive coordinator, that would help a lot of course. Can't judge fully from the outside. Vogel is not my favorite candidate but objectively he's a very very good overall coach all things considered. I feel like we can do better but I don't know if everyone we're interviewing is actually interested in taking the job. They might discover that the owner's son is heavily involved in the organization and that could easily be a turn off for an elite HC.

He had a decent Pacers team.

Just because a coach won with one team does not mean he would win with every team he coached.

But who wins a title and gets fired while same core (Lebron/AD) are sticking around? Reminds me of Lue. I kind of see it like these two have not been able to do anything unless they have the option of throwing the ball to Lebron and letting him coach a freestyle offense. I know both of them are guys that will be tough, hold players accountable and get maximum effort on defense. I don't know if they can coach an offense without a historically elite playmaker.

Still I think these coaches are better than most current coaches and a significant upgrade over Silas. I've told myself not to be picky about whoever they choose as long as it's in my top 5-6 options.

It's actually awesome that we're at a juncture where we're discussing whether a coach who already won a title is our best option. Rockets have put together a better coaching shortlist than any other I've seen and that's good news.

Rather see Cassell over Vogel if they fail to land the other tier one coaches on their big board

They might as well interview J Howard and that former coach of Villanova

Vogel would be a decent enough hire. If Lakers fans, the dumbest fans in all of sports, hate him then he must be at least pretty good.

Why not? Vogel wasn't treated correctly by the funkers by the time he got fired, so he got a chip. People knocked on him solely because those two seasons he was with Orlando and the last LA season. If you look into the rosters he had, most coaches would fail. I'm not saying he should be our first option, but some criticisms against him are unreal and stupid. For instance, the article "Breaking down Frank Vogel" was posted in 2019 and magnified how bad Vogel's offense were - at 20 percentile; as we may know, the next year Vogel won a championship. No team won a championship with a bottom 20 percentile offense, dumbass, no matter how good your defense was. Some people claimed some assistants are better than Vogel, like Sam Cassell, Kevin Young, etc. What have them accomplished? How can you ensure that they are not another Stephen Silas? Stephen SIlas was one of the best assistant coaches back then, but he is proven not a good coach. It shows being a good assistant coach does not necessary turn into a good coach. Not every single case like Nick Nurse. I'd rather have a proven coach like Vogel, than those assistants that have never taken the reins in the NBA level.

Why don't we hire the best out there?
Vogel is not top tier coach from my part.
