The whole supreme court needs to be dismantled and completely rebuilt.

    It has lost its credibility.

I understand how you feel, and feel similarly myself. However, unless Clarence Thomas resigns, and I think that’s highly unlikely, the Court’s credibility, severely damaged by Justice Thomas, is and will remain in crisis, in my opinion. My assumption is that Thomas would have to be impeached in order to be removed. What realistic chance is there of doing that if Thomas fights such an attempt every step of the way?

It's going be so funny when he rules against the student debt relief after accepting millions in bribes haha. The clown show is just beginning. The republican party is a joke.

Thomas is a clown with incredible power, because he’s a member of a little clown show your “joke” placed on the Supreme Court bench, recently joined by clowns placed on the bench by that very same joke. Clowns who might not be as corrupt as he obviously is, but who are likely partisan enough to let Thomas’s corruption “slide” because they enjoy the greater collective power of being the majority in their club.

No, none of this is in the least amusing. I expect Clarence Thomas to attempt to bluff his way through this, hoping all the while that his fellow very conservative and partisan Republican Justices will decide, as distasteful as they may find his behavior, and I suspect that some of them do find his actions sickening, that they will go along with it because of the alternative, a Joe Biden appointee. Perhaps we’ll be surprised and they will turn on Thomas. After all, they would still have a majority on the court, albeit a diluted one. I don’t expect to be surprised. Color me cynical.

Thomas isn't going anywhere and we all know this. That's why I'm laughing. Our institutions are broken. We have a crooked judge who's having his mom live in a house a billionaire bought her while gutting administrative state for the poor. It's all a joke at this point.

We deserve this for electing a con man into office. Trump nominating a 1/3 of judges is just funny. The guy who will go down as the worst president in this century nominated a third of the judges on the Supreme Court.

How can you not laugh at this point

Congress can impeach if they choose Thomaa if it choose. The court doesn't need to be dismantled. People are projecting their frustrations about recently rulings onto this.

    It's one justice

Nope, once McConnel pulled his **** and we got unqualified partisan hacks on the court in addition to this corrupt loser, it was over.

The whole thing needs to be completely dismantled.

The Rs will never vote to impeach ... regardless of the evidence ... the vote will be a straight up partisan vote.

The Ds do not have the votes in Congress to impeach, without some R votes.

I suggest you sit down and read or listen to his entire background being raised.

Yes he absolutely is an uncle Tom and in the most severe way possible.

The manner in which he frames his upbringing to conservative white folks is very uncle Tom from making up stories that his sister is a welfare queen to saying that he was raised by a grandfather that didn't succumb to black culture. The way he frames his upbringing is what racist white people want to hear. It makes them feel good when they hear Claerence talk about himself and his values and upbringing. Very uncle Tom.

The stuff he said about his sister is very ****ed up and VERY Uncle Tom. His entire background origin story to white folks is essentially he was an angry racist black kid who turned it around and realized how great white people were and how great their culture was. You'd be surprised but young Clarence Thomas legitimately had some radical thoughts like not wanting to marry a white woman.

That impeachment is unlikely this is why I’ve come around to packing the court. There seems to be some support for that and could be implemented as soon as the next Congress. I’m not sure how much support there is for term limits or other reforms.

At this point politically the most likely tool is increasing the number of justices.

Actually, the anti-democratic part of our world has to be getting a good chuckle out of it all.

..."packing" the court means passing legislation which is never going happen. You will never get 50 dem senators to vote for expanding the court. No red state dem senator will vote for it (tester, manchin, nor hassan, sinema). Nothing is going change at all. Thomas will sit on the until he dies or there's a republican president.

anyone who thinks otherwise is coping

IIRC Andrew Yang suggested that 5 justices be added, who would have 2 year terms and who will be need the USSC 9 justices's unanimous vote. The new 5 justices would be centrist.

This can not be done by POTUS executive order. The Senate would need to back this. While they are at it, the Senate could add a 20 year term limit for 9 justices, make new, explicit rules for how the Senate votes for USSC nominees especially during POTUS last year in office, and finally make explicit how USSC ethics violations will be enforced.

Likelihood any of this happens ... 1%.

It's not happening because it required a constitutional amendment to change SC lifetime appointments to term limited ones.

2024 will be an uphill battle for Democrats in Congress especially in the Senate.
