Wait. Did Tucker Carlson say he can't believe the media lied and withheld information with a straight face? The guy who one a lawsuit because his lawyer argued no reasonable person would believe Tucker was stating facts? The same guy who privately said he hated Trump and the election wasn't stolen, but pushed the Big Lie every chance he got?

He was an Air Force IT guy with "Top Secret security clearance". A bit different to the script kiddies or "smarter" high schoolers hacking from their bedrooms.

The Air Force confirmed to ABC News that his rank is Airman 1st Class (E-3), and his duty title is Cyber Transport Systems Journeyman.

A U.S. official described this role to ABC News as something like "combat IT" -- a job focused on keeping the military's global communications and cyber infrastructure running. The role is not an intelligence specialist but requires security clearances to perform certain duties, according to the official.

According to a criminal complaint filed in the case, Teixeira has held a "Top Secret security clearance" since 2021 and "would have signed a lifetime binding non-disclosure agreement in which he would have had to acknowledge that the unauthorized disclosure of protected information could result in criminal charges." Additionally, Teixeira "maintained sensitive compartmented access (SCI) to other highly classified programs," the complaint stated.

Treason is very rare at the federal level, rarer than sedition. I haven’t had to deal with it since law school so I could be wrong on all the elements but I don’t think you have to aid the enemy intentionally - just aid the enemy in fact, and it’s arguable that leaking the information to a dozen friends in an unsecured chat room would constitute sufficient evidence that someone would know it could lead to the wrong person having the information.

I said he should get death tongue and cheek - they won’t do that, but my point is that we need to make it clear there are severe consequences for this type of behavior. To a larger point, it is very clear that the US spy/military/CIA needs to do a better job of protecting classified information - from President’s walking around with it outside of the protected WH sphere, to low level government employees having access to it - to a vulnerable infrastructure… the USA has to do a better job.

 

Yes no one should take Tucker Carlson seriously, nor Hannity either, that some continue to post him as a source of knowledge or with an opinion that should be considered has more to do with either they are living in a bubble and/or they are doing so just to trigger a reaction from others.

I'm going to also note that many of those upholding Texiera now as a brave leaker didn't feel the same way about leakers in the Trump Administration and business organization. We saw this with how much criticism was leveled towards even key witnesses in the House's Jan. 6th committee hearing.

 

as a patriot, I would hate to see the US get drawn into WWIII with the worlds largest nuclear power over lies (that Ukraine is winning and the US troops are not involved)

slide decks that show military officials contradicting public statements by government officials are certainly in the public interest to see
