My take is informed by what I've read from BitterWhiteGuy who seems to be one of the better Texas basketball bloggers. He's made it sound like the boosters demanded Beard and all other candidates were given perfunctory interviews
Looks like Terry is going to get the first crack if he accepts the HC job. I think he earned it for sure but UT's roster is basically turning over next year so now they'll be young and in experienced
Really disappointed we couldn't get it done given all the seniors on our rotation. All we needed to do was make a few more plays. Thought after Carr got hurt he wasn't the same. That dude Norchad was reckless af and was rewarded for it. Could have used Disu's size.
Disu is the only rim protector the Horns have, and their best rebounder, and he was definitely missed in that regard.
Morris, Mitchell, Hunter, Cunningham will all be back, as far as I know. They have 5*s Ron Holland (PF) and AJ Johnson (G) coming in (I assume that hasn't changed post-Beard). I'd also imagine that they'll be an enticing destination for whatever transfers fit the roster/system, because they will have holes to fill, especially in the frontcourt. eta: now that I think about it, the extra year of eligibility due to Covid may allow some other guys to come back if they want to
Breakdown from IT: Texas players out of eligibility: G Marcus Carr G Sir’Jabari Rice F Timmy Allen PF Christian Bishop Texas players for sure expected back: F Brock Cunningham SF Alex Anamekwe Texas players that can return: PG Tyrese Hunter PF Dylan Disu CG Arterio Morris F Dillon Mitchell G Rowan Brumbaugh
Excellent info, thanks! I wasn't sure if Disu could come back or not, that's definitely fun. I knew about Carr and Rice, didn't know about Allen and Bishop. Those are large holes to fill, the youngsters gotta step up.
IIRC Disu flirted with the draft last year. Have to think he’ll get a favorable grade after his finish to the season.
The concern with Rodney was the unknown of his ability to recruit and bring in talent. Not a good start with the transfers and now this: https://247sports.com/Article/Five-...tralia-instead-of-attending-Texas--208244889/ Five-star Texas commit AJ Johnson is heading to Australia to play in the NBL
That ****ing sucks. Wow. Makes Morris leaving even more head-scratching. He could have been The Man in the backcourt.
