^^^^^^Simms edge rushers 1. Tyree Wilson (Texas Tech): No brainer. Definitely best edge rusher. If you wanna think about Myles Garrett, that’s what we’re talking about here. If the team at 1 needed a pass rusher, we’d be talking about him as the #1 pick. I wrote “Duh! No brainer.” There’s no debate here. The Cardinals will take Tyree Wilson at 3. He’s got everything. Elite first step. Incredible bend around the edge. Has everything you want. Explosion, strength, length, ability to move side to side, can do it all, physical in the run game, in the open field, he brings it. We don’t need to break this down real long. It’s not close. Special, special player. This will be the #1 edge guy off the board. He’s awesome. … His length is special. … Nothing to not like. Natural gifted athlete. Definite top 5 pick and absolutely shocked if he doesn’t go to the Cardinals. … Don’t get it messed up. This is the best pass rusher in the draft and will be the #1 pass rusher off the board, guarantee it. These guys (below) are really good. Wilson is “Duh!” These guys are really awesome. High ceiling, high floor. Wilson has the ceiling to be Myles Garrett and lead the NFL in sacks every year of his career or be in that conversation. These guys, there’s some of that but there’s a flaw or two. Wilson, tell me the flaw. These guys, there’s limited questions. 2. Lukas Van Ness (Iowa): Not your traditional line up wide and get after the passer. This is more of the JJ Watt type guy. More of “Yeah, he can play 4-3 DE but he can play 3-4 DE and be head up on an OT.” He can play some OLB. Not what you really want him to do but he’s really a 4-3 strong side end, a 3-4 DE that’s head up on the tackle or it’s 3rd down or we have another speed rusher, go in the 3-tech and abuse that guard on the inside. This guy is more along the lines of JJ Watt. Not always about speed and burst. There’s more power and some strength at the point of attack and manhandling your opponent in front of you. … Explosive. Long arms. More power based. His play strength is off the charts. His pass rushing may not be what we picture as far as TJ Watt. … He has a very high floor. His ceiling is pretty damn high too. He won’t be a bust. Will be a good player for a long time and bet it’s better than good, it’s really damn good and one of the better hybrid players in football. … His strength is off the charts good. … JJ Watt is the extreme and is in a special room with Deion Sanders in the HOF. Maybe Zach Allen? Dre’Mont Jones? It’s that kind of guy. Power & strength based on the edge and then disruptive coming inside. Kinda a no-miss prospect. Strength, athleticism, length are all elite. Speed to power is real. Not great speed but it’s great power. Can do it all. … He is a top 15 pick. No doubt he goes in the top 15. 3. Nolan Smith (Georgia): When you want to talk about Von Miller type pass rushers…again, I know, I mentioned JJ Watt, I’m giving everyone the ultimate version if everything works out in their favor. Some of the positions you’ve seen Von Miller go around the edge in. This is your guy that has a chance to be Von Miller or let’s say Haason Redick. Arguably most explosive person in this draft. Silky, smooth mover. First step. The bend we talk about. Power for 239 is insanity. There’s nothing athletically you worry about. There’s nothing strength wise you worry about. You gotta worry about what positions you put him in. Pure athleticism, speed, athleticism, he’s as good as it gets in that department. … Haason Redick, Von Miller, Micah Parsons, it’s that type of guy. Can play stand up LB, 3-4 OLB, 3rd and 12 we need you to be wide 9 tech, just use your speed and bend around the edge. Movement is off the charts good. Great bend, change of direction, play strength is great, can turn the corner with bend or stick his foot in the ground and turn the corner. … He plays hard. He’s physical. He’ll take on anyone. … Top 15 pick. He’ll only get bigger and stronger. … If a 4-3 team wanted to take him and let him play stand up LB and on 3rd downs, we’ll slowly get him into playing that position but what’ll happen is stand up LB is good but holy **** he’s amazing and no one can block him on the edge. Let’s stop that stand up LB **** and let him go after the QB. … When you’re 238 and playing edge pass rusher, you better be freaky in those other areas. … His first step is as good as elite WRs. More length than Micah Parsons. … He brings it. This isn’t pretty boy fast pass rusher. If he was all speed, I wouldn’t love him. 4. Will McDonald IV (Iowa State): He’s like damn long praying mantis. He’s Leonard Floyd. He was awesome. Since he was the 6th pick, they all thought it should be 15 sacks a year but that’s not who he is. It’s length, it’s athleticism. He plays DT almost in the Big 12. They play a 3-down front with Iowa and he plays head up on the tackle and never loses a physical battle. Totally playing out of position in college but it didn’t matter and he was still stellar. … I wrote “Wow! Skinny and long. Looks like a Leonard Floyd type. He plays 5 tech? His play strength is off the charts. His athletic ability is awesome. Moves well.” He’s phenomenal at getting off blocks. That’s where he’s really special. He’ll be a 3-4 OLB, 4-3 weak side end with ability to be strong side end. He’ll be a hybrid edge pass rusher. … This is a length and leverage guy along with an incredible athlete. I don’t know if he’ll be that top sack guy in football but you’ll go “Damn, he’s our awesome OLB and this is year 8 and in the pro bowl conversation every year.” He plays like DT in some snaps. He can drop into coverage and be comfortable there. There’s a lot to like. I think he’s a top 20 pick, somewhere between 10-20. … Shedding blockers, probably best of anyone in the draft. Throws his body around. Great feel and instinct. Sees the ball well. … Has good bend. Not stiff at all. Has a rip move, a spin move. Really awesome football player who will flirt with 10 sack seasons but that’s not his bread and butter. OLB, 4-3 DE, can play standup LB and wrote Devin Lloyd. The floor is high. Don’t see much of a bust factor.
5. Will Anderson Jr. (Alabama): Let me just say, that’s insane. I like this player but gotta question when they were telling me he was the #1 pick. I don’t know how that could come. I really like Will Anderson. Good football player. There’s not much elite. I would bet big money no way he goes before any of the 4 guys we talked about. This is obvious. No one will be able to watch his film and go “It’s as good as the 4 guys we just talked about.” No way. Those other guys have multiple things they do elite. This guy has a lot he does good but nothing is elite. I know production is off the charts but all sacks aren’t created equal. His production, great. Some of the sacks, they’re not that special guys. The QB was holding it for 5 seconds, there was a stunt, he came around, no one blocked him and got a sack. I don’t go “Oh wow!” He got the production but so what? That doesn’t mean anything. … There’s a lot of good here. As a pass rusher, he has some nice bend. “Awesome body. Legs I love for the position. You can see twitch and quick. It’s nice. His play strength is good for his size. This is still a 1st round LB. People are telling me he’s the first pick. 5 minutes in, no way. You see the play strength. Doesn’t get pushed around. Good at getting off blocks. Great awareness and eyes in the backfield. His get off is good but I’m not blown away. First step not as good as the guys last year. Not like Bosa. Not as physically impressive as I was expecting. Am I missing something? Good strength. Quick. Quick feet to win. It’s not wow. Good strength but not wow. Juking is good but not wow. First step is not top 5 special. Good bend but not wow bend. Speed to power is just OK. Good athlete but I’m not “Wow, this is a special athlete.” Not enough disruption and domination to be a top 5 pick. Not a good enough overall specimen to take top 5. Misses too many tackles. Doesn’t make enough plays. 3-4 OLB. Maaayybe a 4-3 weakside DE. Not wowed by him at all. I do question his play stamina. Looks like he gets tired. … Number one recruit, went to the big time college and he did good so he still has to be the number one guy? … (Host) You say throw it out, look at the film and not the numbers. … He’s a starting OLB but to say he’s even in the class of Tyree Wilson? I’m not trying to be hot takey. Everyone in the NFL will see it this way. Everybody. This is not me being different. I want to be right. Sacks, college football, it’s a different game. The quality of the sack and how you’re getting them is important. There’s a way and a look how that should feel and look to be a top pick and that’s where I don’t see it. … He’s good in the run, takes on blocks. A few QB pressures, they’re not “Oh wow! Woah! Holy **** did he push that tackle back!” I can watch Georgia games and say that 20/30 times for Nolan Smith and he didn’t get a sack but it was “Wow! Holy crap, he ruined that guy!” It’s good but not pure physical domination or pure physical explosiveness that lends itself to being a top 10 pick. There’s other guys I have honorable mention where I have more confidence in them as pass rushers, maybe not overall player, but 2 years from now, your honorable mention has 12/13 sacks a year. Will Anderson could play stand up LB. I think that’s where he ends up. I don’t think he’ll be end of the LOS rushing the passer. I’m not sure that’s gonna happen. I don’t think he’ll be an every down pass rusher by any stretch of the imagination. … I knew my top 4 period. It was easy. Now there were some guys at 5. I texted some people in football. Am I missing something? My feedback was “No, I thought the same thing. Why is everyone telling me he’s the first pick?” … This is more apparent than Thibodeaux last year. I can see some things from Thibodeaux, why people might want him in the top 10. Not for me but I can understand it. This one, he’s going in the top 10? What the hell are they thinking? … 4.6 40, most people went “Ehhh.” People tell me he’s just like Khalil Mack. No he’s not. I don’t get how he got to this point. … He’s a good player. I don’t want that to be mistaken. … I’m pretty confident this is not a top 10 confident. Not pretty, I’m very confident. No way he goes in the top 10. Definitely in the 2nd half of the first round. I wrote end of the first round. We’ll see. I do like the player. I want to make sure that’s front and center. There’s no way you can watch film and go this is the number one pick. That’s where I get frustrated. … This wasn’t a slam dunk, him at #5. It was Will and a few other guys. 6. Zach Harrison (Ohio State): More along the lines of Lukas Van Ness. Bigger DE who is long. Can play inside. Doesn’t get a chance to go around the edge and be crazy. Came away watching him “He does everything.” I walked away going “Was that Carlos Dunlap or was that Carlos Dunlap?” Has versatility. 7. Myles Murphy (Clemson): Good football player. Maybe a little overhyped because at Clemson. Think he goes early 2nd. Don’t love his body. Not real developed and muscular. As a specimen, he’s good but nothing pops. Good quick feet and change of direction. Get off is good but not top 15-20 good. Bend is just OK. Didn’t see him turn the corner the way I wanted to. Shoots gaps, the best thing he does. Not incredibly strong and physical at the point of attack. Play strength, bend, not in the class of guys we talked about. I wrote “Is the world we’re in? Ranked high in HS, go to good college and automatically become one of the top guys in the draft?” 8. Derrick Hall (Auburn): Hall and Byron Young from Tennessee have some traits where they could be special. Freaky strong, have bend and explosion. Stiffer, straight liner guy but I go “1. Could be good 3-4 OLB but when they get wide and use straight speed, they’re special and have strength that is special too.” 2 years from now, I would not be shocked if those guys(Hall/Young) are better pass rushers than Anderson. Explosive ability, ability to turn the corner. You see plays on tape where “Woah, he got shot out of a cannon!” 9. Felix Anudike-Uzomah (Kansas State): Another guy early 2nd round, starting DL along the lines of maybe a Boye Mafe last year or Arnold Ebiketie. There’s an aspect or two where I go “I like the way that looks as a pass rusher.” 10. Byron Young (Tennessee) 11. BJ Ojulari (LSU) 12. Keion White (Georgia Tech): More of a Lukas Van Ness who can play inside/outside-ish. Big, square strong looking man. He’s starting caliber traits but not overly explosive, a little stiff as a player altogether. Not fluid in some of his movements. Not as athletic. Tightly wound I wrote. Not great balance. Edge, 5 technique, not sure he might not even be more 3-tech. Good player but towards end of the 2nd, early 3rd round.
Why would they bluff? Why would they have traded everything they did to get the #1 pick just to trade it away?
Because the "5th Grader" you speak of, won the Heisman, and was the most consistent QB....nvm. Your takes on A-Rich and Bryce have grown tiresome. I will admit, you got me to take the bait...
I do too. I think they want CJ and are trying to get us to move up for Bryce. However, the Vegas odds have taught me to hope that we might actually get CJ. If so, we will be set at QB.
It's wild how this goes. The entire time Byrce was the pick. Media be full of bs. You know what they really could be...
Bluffing as far as Bryce talk. I believe CJ is their guy and they are hoping the Texans panic and trade up. IMO.
I assume you mean it's +160 for Bryce to go #2. But I could also see this ploy working and the Texans trading up to get Bryce at #1 (which would not win the bet).
There's literally no way this happens. Hooker will probably go in the late first/early second, if not sooner.
Seeing the Cardinals trade down smoke, now is when we need to leak to the media that the Texans only covet 1 of the QBs. Don’t say which, just say that. Speculation will run wild about which one we mean and, more importantly, teams will think we are willing to move down if that one guy gets picked by Carolina. We deserve some calls to know how far we might be able to drop and for what compensation even if we don’t do it. What if we don’t really live BY or Stroud like people assume and we learn we could slide to 4 from the Colts for a ransom? If you don’t think either is the guy, you might be able to pick up a lot to move down some.
