I just read the article. It confirms some of what @Nook had told us. ---------------- https://theathletic.com/4394358/2023/04/09/houston-rockets-stephen-silas/ Throughout Silas’ tenure, the looming presence of general manager Rafael Stone was also one the head coach had to manage. While the two had constant positive dialogue, Stone, sources say, was routinely present for practices, shootarounds, coaches meetings and film sessions at home and on the road, often giving his input and suggestions of his own accord. And on one occasion prior to the 2021-22 season, Stone interrupted a Silas-led session to give his input on and show defensive positions to a few players who were present, sources with direct knowledge of the instance say. The interference reached a point where Silas eventually had to inform Stone he could no longer halt the coach’s practice sessions. “Stephen had to address the front office and check them,” one source familiar with the matter said. Such an incident never happened again. And yet the apparent control by Silas manifested itself with a lack of accountability in and outside the locker room. Silas, sources say, experienced difficulty at times connecting with players like Christian Wood and Kevin Porter Jr., evident in suspensions for both in January 2022. Wall and Silas were close and might have helped establish order, but the decision to exclude the veteran point guard from the rotation was a directive from management. Between Wood, Green, Eric Gordon and Porter, there was an underlying battle for pecking order. As a result, there was an overall lack of leadership. ------------------- Not that there was ever any doubt from anyone with actual credibility regarding @Nook being correct - but that indirectly also validates what @Nook told us about KPJ and his cancerous behaviour. KPJ should be out next. (And he can take Nix with him.)
They declined the option. So terminated however you view it. Employer said 'no thanks' to him continuing the second this season ended.
That hiring Mark Jackson line was not a compliment. I don't want MJ and that is my point. We agree. Huh? Where did he do that? Not in NJ. They improved dramatically after he left. KA is just Rick Carlisle with hair. No thanks. He can be an assistant on Ime Udokah's staff, however.
Exactly. Some people on here listen to NBA Radio too much. Do not listen to those guys. Those dudes like certain coaches because they are sources for their articles. I firmly believe that Harden only won one MVP because certain media writers (Brian Geltseiler, Mitch Lawrence, Bill Simmons, just to name a few) have a hard on for Kevin McHale, and blame Harden for getting him fired.
The positive is that it looks like all the possible candidates have some tenure, experience and clout to not be pushovers like Silas. Udoka, Nurse, Atkinson all will tell Stone "bruh, who do you think knows more about basketball here. Now shut your mouth".
You know I just looked at it and the improvement isn't as stark as I thought. They went from 20 to 40 wins in 3 seasons and the last year was a drop off too. I guess I've read he's a good development coach enough times to believe it...
My order of preference: 1. Ime; 2. Nurse: 3. Atkinson; 4. Vogel. Nurse and Atkinson are close for me. I reserve the right to flip their positions.
Stone sometimes controls coaching, doesn't mean Silas is not incompetent coach. Silas doesn't like playing rookies like JC, Stone tells Silas you have to play them and develop.
Exactly. Old Jacques Vaughn took over and the team improved dramatically. That is why people were surprised when Sean Marks brought in Steve Nash to coach. Honestly, Marks should be fired for that, since he effectively wasted a season and a half waiting for Nash to learn how to coach.
Nash was picked/approved by Durant & co and they won 67% of their games their first year while he was learning how to coach......? They didn't win the east in 2021 because Irving and Harden both got injured. Had really nothing to do with Nash, regardless if he was good or bad
Silas was such an ass coach im starting to think Stone was sayin stuff because of all the "wtf?" Silas was coaching. No plays for the 3rd pick, Jalen pleading for a floor leader and structure in the offense, and asst. coaches pleading for silas to run plays. Silas was just a terrible coach.
So when does everyone think they told him? I think it was at least a couple of months ago, either just before or just after when he suddenly tried to act like he was all angry.
