That's not how relegation works and we don't have a second tier league w/ teams waiting to b promoted.
Split the association and adopt a more European style schedule. The bottom 10 teams only get limited games against the top teams in friendlies... no owners will fret when they don't get those home games against those marquee players and teams.
Pfffft. How about all star selections? How about hall of fame? There's too many things to account for. What we should do is the shttiest team gets thrown into a lottery bracket, best team/winner gets the number 1 pick, make them earn for it. Of course u will see team abuse the system by intentionally tank to win the lottery bracket, but at least the games will b a bit more exciting. Relegation ain't the answer
Leaving the Rockets' decisions aside: we had no legit chance at the playoffs for the last three years. In the Mavs case, they openly and flagrantly avoided the playoffs to retain a draft pick. Sorry if this has been answered, but what exactly can the league do to Cuban? Fine the team? I don't think they can take their draft pick, but the league has definitely penalized draft picks before (like for the Wolves back in the day).
The playin crap is just an idiot tax. Dallas should be celebrated for avoiding it, not criticized. Tillman is too big of a moron to do it obviously, but if the rockets were in a similar situation i would be LIVID if we made the playin game.
Huh? You already said lotto is instituted for parity if they based it randomly how is that parity? Golden State gets Wemby ok so what happens now?

I think it's worth sacrificing a little parity in this case. To be fair I think this would be best combined with the idea of looking at a team's last 3 seasons instead of just this one. Then a team like the Warriors still wouldn't be able to win the lottery. But I think punishing teams for making the playoffs is what causes some of the worst, most egregious tank jobs like what you saw from the Mavs. It really starts messing with the on-court product at the most pivotal point in the season.
i don’t mind teams tanking tbh. we just don’t watch their games. i think the playoffs should be cut down to 4 teams per conference and give all non playoff teams an equal chance at the #1. and you can’t be in the top 10 more than once in a decade.
You may want to double check the math on this one. There's 30 teams in the league. If you weren't allowed to be in the top 10 more than once per decade, then every team ( including the teams with the best records) would have a top 10 pick by the end of year 3 because by year 3, there'd only be 10 teams eligible for top 10 picks. So, what do you do in years 4 through 10? Under your proposed rule, no team in the league would be eligible for a top 10 pick over the next 6 seasons. Also, the last thing that the NBA is going to do is to reduce playoff revenue by reducing the playoffs to only 4 teams per conference.
you make a good point, i'm a horrible math scientist. maybe top 5 picks for a decade. i don't baseball, but don't they have fewer playoff teams too? like 6 or something?
