Lol no. KPJ may indeed be more effective than Green right now but the Rockets aren’t trading Green.

It's almost like that was the point. The Rockets aren't moving on from Green, KPJ, or Smith. Those 3 are practically guarantied to be starting here next season.

Of the starters this season, only KJ Martin and Sengun have a serious chance of not being around after this season.

This man plays better off-ball but we trying to force him to become something he’s not because our roster is trash.

That's why they've been pushing Jalen Green all season long to try and be more of a combo guard. He's still not very good at it, but the goal is to run a two combo guard system. If Jalen improves enough, it should be pretty good going forward.

I think that if the Celtics asked for Green for Jaylen Brown we would do it in a heartbeat.

    Seriously doubt it.

Jaylen Brown didn't get to Jalen Greens level until his 4th season [20 Pt level per game]

Jaylen Brown is due $30M this upcoming season and can then bolt as a free agent.

Doubt Rockets trade for a one year rental while Green is still on a rookie contract
with probably a higher ceiling. Green put on about 8 pounds between
year one and year two......just needs to add another 10 pounds to
absorb contact better and dominate the NBA.

Green needs to distance himself from Liquid Death.....that's bad wicked stuff

You would be ecstatic if Green was taken 8 shots and getting 8ppg, nothing more nor less

So the Rockets front office is so incompetent that they are trying to turn their scoring/shooting guards into something they are not?

Because in the most simplest form, neither KPJ/Green has the feel to run PG and both are trying to do it because the roster is trash at the PG spot, so if they both improve it would be better going forward

Jalen is every bit as good a so called combo guard as KPJ right now from the eye test

    Sure, yes he is

Stop making it seem like KPJ is Zeke/Iverson/Archibald combo guard level and Green is Maloney

The real question is what would be his value? His contract is team friendly right? So do you think he nets a late first rounder? A quality veteran? Or is he just going to net a second rounder?

Look, KPJ is a better, passer, defender, shooter, and ball handler - and is very close to the same age - if he had no past issues, he would not have fans doubting him as his stats all went up this year.

Green is still going to be good too - but he doesn't have the handles, and he needs a hesi, or a jumpstop, or a bit more in his bag to get his own more often.

Both are good players, but KPJ is just better ATM.

Is he a better passer? Is he at this point a better ball handler? Their security has is almost the same at this point. Green is now comfortable handling presses and maintaining dribbles in tight spaces. Clearly a significant improvement than before.

Defense is rather subjective. What makes you say this? I remember specific games where where guys like Quickley could not score on Green and could score on KPJ at will. Same With Halliburton.

    Ill give you shooting.

The narcissist in you is very confused why 99% of GMs, scouts, Rocket fans prefer Green. I get it. You have go die on this hill.

Please don't talk about hesis, jumpstops etc. Moves you never can comprehend how to execute.

Stop pretending Green is just a Kuminga who is mostly an athletic freak with no skill.

There are no numbers of gms that prefer either, you once again are deluded.

Green is a good player, not a superstar, but a good quality NBA shooting guard that is developing nicely. KPJ is just further along in all of his skills....its ok, he is a year ish older......it is natural.

If they have to choose one, and they really believe KPJ is rehabbed, would not surprise me that they take the cheaper one that is actually better.

We can't get too attached to any player any of them might be gone this offseason....and I am fine with that are you?

Having an opinion is not narcissism, but continually making **** up as fact is definitely on the spectrum somewhere - the struggle is real isn't it?

So much so that you can't stop talking about your favorite player even when the thread isn't about him.

Well, this was the post that finally brought me back in lol. I've held out as long as I could. A couple of Bobby's have almost brought me back (but it's not worth it with him lol)... this one finally did it.

DD, I listened to a RocketsWatch the other day and man, I have to say... I honestly don't know how someone can come across so differently in person compared to online lmao. You had me actually laughing out loud listening to you go off the other day. It was awesome. I actually was thinking to myself, "Who is this guy? He's ME... the way he's ranting... bringing business into it (I've owned a small business for 17+ years & was in multi-unit management with a publicly held company for 15ish years before that). I had to ask a long time Clutchfans/Rockets twitter account if EricakaDaDakota as actually the same DD on Clutchfans lol.

Anyway, I've never really been a fan of advanced stats as I'm big time old school. Been watching the NBA for 48ish years. But not sure how you could watch the Rockets this season and say definitively that KPJ is a better defender. I hope people really don't use the offensive & defensive ratings on Basketball Reference as a way to actually rate someone's individual defense. Actually, I don't think there IS a stat that accurately measure that.

As an example of how much I don't feel you can use that, Eric Gordon had a 124 defensive rating with the Rockets this season. Since he's been with LA he's at 118. Has he played THAT much better? That rating is heavily weighted with team defense from what I understand.

I'm sure nba.com's iso defense is as well but likely not as much. With the Rockets this season, he was in the 43rd percentile. With LA, he's 4th best in the NBA (in the 99th percentile)!!!??? Really? It makes sense that EG was at 124 with us, Jalen shows to be at 123 and KPJ at 120. None of which are "good", obviously.

What about ESPN defensive real plus minus? This season Jalen is at 1.07 (down from 1.13 before the Hornets game) while KPJ is at -1.34. In nba.com's iso defense, Jalen is in the 56th percentile while KPJ is in the 29th percentile. Again, I do not think you can measure individual defense with stats. Way too many variables. But, who was defending Trae & Book late in those huge wins? Who blocked D-Lo's late 3 point attempt in that win vs the Wolves (when Jalen also had his career high 42)?

By no means am I claiming Jalen is an elite defender. However, I've always maintained he was a good iso/perimeter defender. He can get lost (ball watching) too often & had to really improve with his rotations. I feel he's done that but obviously still has a way to go. The biggest thing I've seen with him this season is the "here we go again" thing that we saw with all the guys... and they all stop playing with focus & intensity. When he's in a competitive situation & locked in, he's very capable. Still needs to get stronger & continue improving anticipation, playing passing lanes, rotations & with consistent intensity (although that's often something that's often difficult for #1 scoring options).

As far as ball handling, we'll have to agree to disagree. Jalen's TO's per 100 possessions is 3.8, KPJ's 4.5. Turnover percentage per basketball reference is 11.4, KPJ's is 15.8. Turnover ratio per espn's advanced stats is 9.9 while KPJ's is 12.3. All this while Jalen's usage is higher (28.2 & 28.6 per BR & ESPN compared to KPJ's 24.3 & 25.7). Obviously, turnovers aren't a sole factor in ball handling. But for me, sure seems like Jalen's handle is just as tight if not tighter. KPJ stumbles around a ton, which hurts his ball handling/ball security, imo.

No argument with shooting. KPJ has been on fire recently, too. But I will say, from 10 feet out to the 3 point line KPJ is shooting at career high clips. Very confident Jalen's numbers will improve in year 3 & 4 as well.

As far as "better ATM" we'll again agree to disagree. As much as I hate RPM, Jalen's currently at 0.85 ORPM, 1.07 DRPM & 1.92 overall (leading the team). KPJ is at 1.33 ORPM, -1.34 DRPM & -0.01 overall. Not a fan of plus/minus either but since March 1st, if we exclude the blowout debacle in Memphis 3/24, Jalen leads the team in +/- with a -6 in those 19 games. KPJ is at a -62 in 18 games. Jalen's also had a double digit minus in just 3 games in that span as well, again, leading the team (excluding the Memphis game where EVERYONE'S +/- was destroyed lol). KPJ has had a double digit minus in 7 of those games.

Again, while I'm not a huge fan of advanced stats, I'm only showing them cause they MAY make a better case than simply saying "You're wrong, Jalen's better than KPJ" lol.

I haven't logged in here in forever because of the non stop, unreal, ridiculous toxic type posts. I don't understand how so many can argue so vehemently as to who's better, this guy sucks, etc. It's amazing to me how so many maintain negative outlooks on certain or ANY players on the team (ok, maybe other than Nix). Especially THIS team... in THIS situation. Seems like everyone would be looking for reasons to be positive and trying to imagine what these kids will look like in a real system, with a different coach, with a few veterans who are actually in the rotation. Crazy that so many rush to judge when these kids are in the situation they're in. Amazing. (sorry, rant over)

    * forgot passing... definitely disagree here... Jalen very well may be our best lob passer & other than Al-P, he's certainly had more "highlight passes", which doesn't mean a ton. But, KPJ consistently misses wide open 3 point shooters, which is frustrating, because when he first came up to the team from the G-Leauge, he wasn't doing that. It's almost like you can see him struggling between trying to be a PG & a scorer... just doens't look as natural as when he first came up, imo.

But what is the gap, all of it is as close as they are in age, which you seem to only think that is what they are close in

Many players have had past issues and based on what they showcase on the hardwood it gets thrown under the rug for most part

Lets say you feel KPJ is 88 overall, than Green is 85/86 overall

Being available makes you better off top

Are you kidding me? I would give up both KPJ/JG in a heartbeat for Brown. Then try to sign FVV to a max.
Brown/FVV would be such a great backcourt: All-Stars, been to the Finals, great, tough, smart competitors. Add to that a young talented frontcourt -Sengun, Smith, KJM, Wemby/Miller… Strong and physical players off the bench in Tari/Jaygup/Tate… We’re talking.

It’s all a pipe-dream however. Bos can do better than KPJ/JG, and FVV will have plenty of suitors.

That would be tremendously stupid, except maybe if we land Wemby. Green might be better than Brown before his rookie years even end, and he'll certainly offer much more value over what he'll be paid. Brown is not a true top 10 superstar. Very good player, but he's not enough to build around and win a championship.

You start trading away blue chip prospects for players like that and you end up on the mediocrity treadmill. The whole reason we rebuilt was to avoid that.

And anyway, every time Brown comes up I'm going to say it again: He already said it himself in a recent interview, he's already in a perfect situation alongside Tatum, and the Celtics are in a great situation having both those guys together. I don't see any reason either party would break that up and I think this is all a bunch of hot air created by the media to generate clicks.
