Which isn’t out of the norm.. I would argue for the most part high draft picks that are qbs mostly throw to talented WRs no?
Young had nothing this year on offense which explains his “down year” from last year to this year. He carried Alabama
JXN will be in the first round this year. So Olave, Wilson, and JXN will be first rounders. Harrison Jr. could be a first rounder next year. You have to admit this is not normal.
Interesting point - is Stroud making his receivers better or is it the other way round? There is a strong case that Stroud is making his guys better. Harrison Jr.should be the #1 WR in next year's draft.
Hard to tell. Both his WRs balled out in their rookie year this year. I'd argue that throwing to wide open, first round WRs makes Stroud better.
I’d honestly rather have Levis than Hooker. Hooker just screams bust to me. So does Levis, but Hooker is coming from one of the most dumbed down QB friendly offenses you’ll ever see. It’s the Briles offense that RG3 ran at Baylor. Just a crap ton of deep shots and straight vertical routes. Almost nothing over the middle of the field. They would be timed last year where you could barely even see Tennessee’s WRs on the screen because they consistently line up soooooo far out wide, creating favorable angles/matchups for the QB to throw into. Add on top of that the fact that he’s already like 25, no thanks.
Joe Burrow played with arguably one of the greatest WR core at LSU but the narrative is that he made them better.. for whatever reason when it’s Stroud it’s used as a negative.. just strange to me.. BY Heisman trophy year he had a great team around him.. I didn’t see it as a negative.. just he plays great with talent around.. that’s what’s supposed to happen right…?
What's more important, getting our GOAT this year or next? I am very optimistic about 2023 and would value a future draft pick in the middle third. But I also suspect our Cleveland pick to be middle third as well. But I just don't see any of the good QB's this year being a GOAT. What I fear is getting a good QB that will lead the team to playoffs and playoff losses. I suppose this comes from ancient Oiler disappointments rather than recent Texan ones.
Exactly, But there will be more wins in the short term and being entertained is what is most important to some.
Which extravagantly gifted receivers did Young have to throw to this past season? Alabama’s OL wasn’t the worst in the land it was far, far from dominant. Probably the worst OL at Bama in a decade.
[Premium Post] A history lesson: In 2019, the Arizona Cardinals took Kyler Murray with the top overall pick. All-pro Nick Bosa was taken with the #2 overall pick. Having already selected their QB in the 2019 draft, the Cardinals did not take a QB in the 2020 NFL draft. The 2020 NFL draft saw the following QBs taken: Joe Burrow, Tua Tugavailoa, Justin Herbert, Jalen Hurts. Instead of taking the top defender in the league in 2019 PLUS an elite QB in 2020, the Cardinals went in the wrong order and paired Kyler Murray (2019 1st round) and Isaiah Simmons (2020 1nd round). A franchise-altering, 5-year setback. The Texans must avoid the same fate! Don't reach for a mediocre QB in a weak QB class! I'm sending this to Cal. GOOD DAY
PREMIUM POST Trader Fraud loves spinning narratives on their heels. Before the 2019 NCAA season started - top rated quarterbacks were Tua, Herbert, Fromm and Costello. Burrow was still a semi unknown quantity at that point, it was his 2019-20 season that catapulted him. It’s actually having quality scouts and then staff who can develop a cohesive team through proper coaching and culture development. I can take your example about, flip it to the Browns of 2016. The Browns sent the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft along with the No. 139 pick in the 2017 draft to the Eagles for the Nos. 8, 77 and 100 picks in the 2016 draft, the No. 12 pick in the 2017 draft and a second-round pick in 2018. –Cleveland traded the Nos. 8 and 176 picks to Tennessee for the 15th and 76th overall picks in 2016 and a 2017 second-round pick (No. 52). –Cleveland traded Nos. 77 and 141 to Carolina for Nos. 93, 129 and 168. –Cleveland traded No. 100 to Oakland for Nos. 114 and 154. No. 15 – Corey Coleman, WR, Baylor No. 76 – Shon Coleman, OT, Auburn No. 93 – Cody Kessler, QB, USC No. 114 – Ricardo Louis, WR, Auburn No. 129 – Derrick Kindred, S, TCU No. 154 – Jordan Payton, WR, UCLA No. 168 – Spencer Drango, G, Baylor No. 25 – Jabrill Peppers, S, Michigan No. 52 – DeShone Kizer, QB, Notre Dame They simply could have drafted Mahomes with their haul and been on their way but they didn’t. Trader you can spin this a billion ways to the moon. But like you I will create some drama and bolded posts. GOOD DAY.
They have to take a qb high: all the good ones will be taken high in the draft. It would be malpractice to punt on a qb this year and leave demeco out to dry without one. Now if they lose next year and get 1, everyone in here will want Caleb but no guarantee to go number one again. another reminder that the cards are a horribly run franchise also
20/20 hindsight is great isn’t it. Mahomes was such a guaranteed star that nine teams passed on him in the draft. There is never any certainty if a QB is going to make it or not.
Before Mahomes, scouts were like we aint touching no Texas Tech qbs with a 40 ft pole. There is always one that breaks the stereotyping. So I never hold X player for playing at Y college.
