Negotiations are happening behind closed doors. Nobody gets enjoyment from people dying. The issue is giving ukraine the most leverage at the table which isn't at the moment.

I understand and even sympathize with the desire to not be further involved in a war but this isn’t Iraq or Afghanistan. This is a war of aggression and simply allowing Russia to take Ukraine is not at all in our or the Worlds interests.

 

Macron has wrapped up his trip to the PRC where he it sounds like he had a pretty productive meetings with Xi. While it probably doesn’t make many happy to have Macron improving Xi’s standing my having an official state visit I think there is value in his efforts. He did remind the PRC that if they want good relations with Europe especially on trade supporting Russia in Ukraine isn’t the way to do it. That the value of a multipolar world isn’t just supporting Russia because they US opposed them but that this is very important to Europe. If the PRC wants to present it self as a credible world power just going along with Putin doesn’t help.
