Puff piece is puff. I just hope that they are not serious and are trying to make him look more attractive to trade
Some thoughts on what's been said. 1. Normally, I don't mind some puff pieces, if the article does other things like summarize the state of Rockets. A summary article have their audiences and maybe not meant for the die-hards here. General fans can appreciate them. That said, I think the opinion part of this puff piece on KPJ is misplaced. A good chunk of the people in this corner of the Internet disagree. Feigan should have his independent thought; editorial rights to his piece. Opinion wise I think he's off the mark. The concerning thing is since Feigan is plugged in (news-wise), and if he's writing a puff for the org, it may still be what Stone/Org really thinks. That's what's concerning. Obscure stat pulls like this, do make my eyes roll as it ignore lot of contexts. "reached only eight other times in NBA history, with Porter joining LaMelo Ball, Luka Dončić, Gary Payton and James Harden, who did it five times." I don't mind it for the discourse here, but, can't believe Chron included it. 2. On the basketball archetypes of things like 'combo guards'. I think the discussion sometimes go in circles. The archetype is not incorrect per se, as people can point to other teams who have adopted. It's more the application of the talent who can achieve said archetype, that's the disagreement. When KPJ first got here; and people looked at his physicals. One of the things bought up was a 6'4" guard at the 1 should give team advantage when he plays against 6'1" guards who comes to town. .... who are the starting 6'1"s of the NBA? Ja, Darius, Donovan, Brunson Trae. In pre-game thread, when those guys come to town, do we really think KPJ's extra 3 inches of height (and whatever his wingspan), will clamp them? And guards of similar height.. Quickley (6'3") dropped his career high 40 on us last month. * As we shift focus towards the draft, it's a humble reminder in real time some these physicals don't translate defensively; even for year 4 players. Archetypes prematurely labeled / associated to said talent. A company can hire a translator. A home owner hire an electrician, but that person can vary greatly in quality: talent, skills and experience. We're not saying combo guard is bad or height/wingspan don't matter, it's that when a GM evaluates his player he needs weigh his data correctly to the parameter of what it means to be a good (or even avg). Instead of opting for the luxury of a combo guard, team needs to re-prioritize. People (who i think ... includes DD) have said to prioritize a PG who can set the table so the other young bucks aren't stagnating. The line about traditional PG (like a chris paul) is out-dated; while true to an extent, is a very surface level response. While true as a trend, is not appropriate at the end of this KPJ experiment. In essence, the experiment failed. While i'm not mad at Stone not having 20/20 hindsight to try, it's time wasted. Maybe during that time a vet PG could have helped the other guys develop faster.
He’s solid, I’ve seen growth and don’t dislike him anymore. However, he’s not a PG and off the bench combo guard seems like a role suited best for him and the team.
U know that video of the girl having a meltdown about a hand ramming the wrong wooden shaped pieces into the wrong hole? That's basically how folks feel when we see the Rockets try to make kpj a point guard
This. He's not a starting PG, but he has made legitimate improvements this year in most statiatical categories and would be a quality contributor to a team in the right spot. Sparkplug combo guard off the bench would be perfect if he's willing to embrace the demotion.
He can be a 6th man or SF for this team, but get him away from PG. Not sure what you guys see in KPJ. I was all for the experiment since we were in rebuilding mode. We've learned he is not a PG. Sure he can put up the stats, but at the expense of disrupting ball movement and not finding the best option, I think the experiment failed.
I have grown to like Porter and think it is time to move on from GREEN. Need to trade Green now before the cracks start to bust. Next coach will not play his no defense non fundamental self.
Our coaches see it, opposing coaches and players see it but some of our fans don't see it. Funny how people are blinded by things that are closest to them. Even though KPJ's numbers spell it out, there are people who are STILL HATING and this is a player who is on the team they supposely root for OR should I say on a team of the PLAYER THEY ROOT FOR.
