He is already retaliating with a civil and criminal investigation. There has been a lot of posturing and bluster to save face after the embarrassment, but he will probably end up not doing much again.

    Disney outsmarts DeSantis again.

This is going to hurt DeSantis on the national level - making him a laughing stock when his crusade to go after gays is going to show him up as a fool who doesn't understand business in his own state!

This is hilarious. Disney creating more jobs for Florida than DeSantis. Don't mess with Bob Iger, DeSantis, now you have a big headache on your hands haha.

Damn breh had $4 billion in shares

Ike Perlmutter Blames Disney Firing on “Fundamental Differences,” Says “Don’t Get Involved in Politics”
"I care about the bottom line," the Disney shareholder, who has been let go from his post of Marvel Entertainment chair, said in an interview. "Only people in Hollywood talk about box office."

Billionaire Isaac “Ike” Perlmutter, who sold Marvel to the Walt Disney Co. in 2009 for $4 billion, has argued in a rare public remarks that the Hollywood giant fired him due to business disagreements.

“I have long expected that my working relationship with Disney would end. That it should come as a result of my trying to help Disney improve its business should sadden many shareholders as it does me, the company’s largest individual shareholder,” Perlmutter stated April 5 (full statement below).

The Marvel mogul also elaborated on the sentiment in a published interview the same day. “I have no doubt that my termination was based on fundamental differences in business between my thinking and Disney leadership, because I care about return on investment,” he told the Wall Street Journal.

Just because I disagree with DeSantis on a lot of issues I’m still not going to root for Disney. It definitely seems a fine job of lawyering on their part and no surprise that a very wealthy and powerful corporation could out maneuver the local government.

I still think it’s a bad idea to give a corporation police and regulatory power.

I'm not a fan of Disney because of their relationship with China and their increasingly crappy products, but I think in the context of a corporation operating large theme parks it makes sense. Central Florida created one of the largest tourist traps/experiences in history and a chunk of that was being able to have the power to control the environment around it.

I certainly wouldn't want Exxon wielding the same sort of power.... but I imagine the massive Exxon campus in North Houston came with all sorts of strings attached for the local government(s).

One thing I have to say about Disney that's good
They don't have Jeremy Lin as one of their cartoon characters

It's been a long established practice for local governments to give all sorts of breaks to attract businesses. Things like tax breaks and TIF financing are one thing but I do think it get's problematic when they are allowed police and regulatory powers.

Disney does not have police power. Its security force primarily consists of private security guards who do not have the authority to make arrests. They are similar to the security personnel employed by any private company. If an arrest is necessary, they must contact the Orlando police force.

The provision (lawyering) was public knowledge 19 days before the new board took over. It highlights the incompetency of the DeSantis administration. I am much more concerned about what is clearly an attempt by the DeSantis administration to punish Disney for its speech than the special power Disney has had since the 1970s, which has largely been good for both the state and Disney. The intention here is clear with the governor assigning extreme partisans to the new board. If the intention is to investigate any potential abuse of power by Disney in the district (which there has not been any that we know of) or to prevent any potential abuse, that would be fair. But we all know that this is not what this is about.

In the meantime, Floridians are facing real issues such as out-of-control insurance premiums and it’s poor outdated infrastructure. Antiwoke is not going to solve real problems but the gov think it will get him to the WH (a big mistake).

This is how all authoritarian regimes eventually fail. If you are a control freak, you don't delegate well, and when you do, it's to other control freaks who also don't delegate well. There's a finite amount of work you can do yourself, if you don't delegate, you can't grow.

Disney, on the other hand, has to answer to their stockholders and their board has been shown to be very proactive (just fired Bad Bob and brought back Good Bob). Like it or hate it, it's a great company growth-wise.

Again, I would normally agree but we are talking about a corporation who is using to build a massive system of theme parks/resorts in central florida. At that scale, they are essentially a municipality.
