Asked Wednesday on a New Haven radio show to describe the scene after UConn’s win over San Diego State, Lamont began with a dig at Houston.

“You walk around downtown Houston, which is butt ugly, not much there …,” the governor began, before the highly amused hosts cut him off.

“You know that’s going to be tweeted,” one of them said, laughing. “Get ready to hear from Houston. Houston, we have a problem.”

Lamont eventually finished his sentence. “… Except for the UConn fans,” he said. “Everywhere you’d hear bouncing off of those big, empty walls, 'Let’s go UConn, UConn Huskies.'”

“You’re walking around downtown Houston, it’s kind of godforsaken, not very pretty, but everywhere you go you see people in a T-shirt and they see you right back and (say) 'UConn Huskies,'” he told Brian Schactman on WTIC’s “Brian and Company.”

FerTitty-owned Houston steakhouse fires back after UConn player's food poisoning allegation

UConn's Jordan Hawkins came down with what he said was food poisoning over the weekend before the semifinals against Miami. The shooting guard reportedly ate steak, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes and calamari.

Hawkins later spoke to Stadium analyst Jeff Goodman, saying his intense stomach pains might have come from the calamari from Mastro's Steakhouse.

"The biggest L this weekend wasn’t FAU or Miami, it was this place," former ESPN analyst Darren Rovell tweeted.

Jim Gossen, president of the Gulf Seafood Foundation, spoke in defense of Mastro's (and all seafood) by implying Hawkins had probably drank too much alcohol.

“They always blame the oyster; they never blame the Crown Royal,” Gossen told the Times.

Mastro's representatives sent a blistering counterstatement, calling Hawkins' allegation was false and saying they had receipts. They even threw out the COVID-19 herring for good measure.

"Throughout Final Four weekend, we sold nearly 100 orders of calamari with zero calls about illness. The basketball team dined with us Thursday evening and had 13 orders of calamari and then ordered three more calamari appetizers again on Sunday for delivery. Again, no complaints. How did one person get food poisoning if 13 orders were on the check? Is it possible he may have had COVID? Were he and the team tested after his symptoms began?”

Despite Gossen's remarks, the provided receipts don't show any alcohol purchases. What they do show is a $12,500 total bill. The team ordered the works — from steaks, crab, salmon, cakes, macaroni and cheese, and more.

I'm sure they're 100% correct about the quality of food, but also:

What an embarrassment for the City, typical cheapass.

Bump. I am coming back to Houston and so stoked. Looks like Pinkerton, Truth and Franklin are the BBQs to go.

What I want is fried okra - best places to get it? I use to go to Luby's cafeteria before I moved and I miss that like crazy.

Also viet cajun food - what is the best place? Seen "crawfish and etc" - any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
