At no point in the season was Toronto ever on some make believe 50 win pace. They spent the entire season just trying to get above .500

Most people are too stuck in their viewpoints to realize that there aren't many PGs left in the NBA and that almost all the good teams are playing 2 combo guards, they are missing the boat as it sails right passed them.

Outside of maybe Chris Paul, every single other person playing the 1 that is elite is a combo/scoring point.

4 out of 5 of those guys are averaging over 7 assists per game, which is a good number in any era, and the only one who isn't (Curry) is probably literally the best shooter to ever play the game of basketball, so I think your argument is silly. People very much still play point guards, they just score a lot more in today's 3-point-heavy league with higher-scoring offenses that shoot from the perimeter far more often.

I'm aware of the decline of the traditional point guard. That is undeniably true but that is NOT what the Rockets set forth with KPJ. They wanted to make him the primary distributor and orchestrator of the offense, which he's not very good at. The Rockets have looked MUCH better with the ball in Sengun's hands. KPJ is at his best when his focus is only scoring the ball.

I mean seriously don't believe in fake news. Morey already gone on record and said harden going to get a hefty 4 year deal to stay.

While I agree with you that natural PGs are out of fashion, that does not mean we cant improve from KPJ. Do you think KPJ was good in setting up any of his teammates? Stats or eye test?
I still see a future for him as a 2 or even a 3. But at the 1, I believe he does not elevate his peers and has below average game management, as in when to go for certain things. An area where Harden and CP3 were top 10 in the league.

Dead last in so many categories, pretty dam obvious that kpj as the pg aint it. Man can't even score enough/consistently to warrant your stance of being combo/scoring point guard. He's a good shooter, but he sucks at pg/play making. Senhub needs a point guard regardless, solely relying on sengun to b the playmaker is too predictable since folks will make it harder to just pass to him

Daishen Nix. Yeah, let's not.

Fred VanVleet. Currently averaging 19.2 points per 36, 7 assists, 3.6 rebounds with just 2 turnovers. Below-average 54% TS%, however he does take care of the ball and is a pretty good distributor, and his defense is at least average for the position. Will probably cost quite a bit as one of the better players in a relatively thin free agent class.

D'Angelo Russell. An interesting option; currently averaging 19.8 points per 36, 6.9 assists, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.9 turnovers with a very good 60.3% TS%. Defensively, he has a bad reputation and the numbers don't look great, but I've seen some say he's a bit underrated. Younger than FVV and possibly less expensive, but LAL will probably try to bring him back?

Tre Jones. Jones is a restricted free agent and it might require an overpay to have a chance at prying him away from Popovich, depending on who they pick in the draft. He is averaging 15.6 points per 36, 7.9 assists, and 4.3 rebounds, with only 2 turnovers. He's a good playmaker and primary ballhandler--the downside is his 52.8% TS% and inability to shoot the 3. He is also reported to be a solid defender with some serious upside in that area (former ACC defensive player of the year). Unlike most of these guys, he is young (just turned 23) and could peak at the same time as our young prospects; if he develops as a shooter enough to space the floor and keep defenses honest, he could be a nice fit.

Kyle Lowry. If we want a veteran presence at the helm, I'd ask Miami about Lowry. He can still hoop a little bit, currently averaging 13 per 36, 5.8 assists, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.2 turnovers on 56% TS%. On a big expiring contract, so if we want to maintain cap flexibility for the 2024 offseason and add a great veteran presence to mentor the young kids, I'd love to have him back to close out his career with the organization where he first broke out as a starter.
