Oh how cute +/- matters today - lets celebrate a -5 in a 25 point blowout loss while the guy he was supposed to be defending goes off for 40!
The more I watch Sengun the more convinced I am that he absolutely has to add a jumpshot. It can be midrange, or 3s, or obviously both would be best. I know it's been said a million times but Also I'd like to see a better answer (I think this falls entirely on coaching) to when he gets fronted and/or doubled. It seems like it's way too easy to neturalize him this way and I don't really think that falls on him. The rockets need to practice those post entry passes so we can make teams pay for fronting him. And more importantly the team needs a plan for when he gets doubled in the post. I really don't like "kick it back out to the closest perimeter player" because that's REALLY easy for the defense to recover from and the rockets lose their advantage. Surely there is some way to make the other team pay for aggressively doubling him, especially with how talented of a passer he is. Aggressively double teaming a player typically does not work if that player is a good passer, which Sengun obviously is.
I'd rather AD dropping 40 against the Rockets than Immanuel Quickley dropping 40. Because you know AD dropped 38 on Gobert 2 days ago. AD dropped 44 on DPOY candidate Brook Lopez as well. So both Brook and Gobert must be horrible defenders. And do you remember when was the last time Quickley dropped 40 against any team? The answer is you don't remember because Immanuel Quickley's career high is 40 and he dropped that against the Rockets.
It's not Silas's system. Sengun can't shoot and can only score around the basketball. He'd struggle in any system until develops a outside shot What about Valanciunas? He destroyed Sengun as well
Too much positivity going on in here guys please be more sensitive to those that are perpetually miserable.
Anti sengun folks never point out when a rando guard goes crazy on our team bc that would b a acknowledging that the head honcho or green was lacking at the d. Generally when I view if defense on a man was poor or not I look to see if the man is an actual star/rando scrub + if he did it efficiently or not. In regards to sengun, i think he didnt do so hot on defense. Davis scored a sht ton and he did it quite efficiently. It happens
KPJ probably doesn't have a future on the team, so his defensive impact is irrelevant. Green does, and Green can improve. He has physical tools and quickness to be a good defender, and he has shown flashes. He will get there, and even if he doesn't, you can somewhat hide perimeter players, ala Harden, to overcome those weaknesses. Sengun isn't viable as a Center defensively. Complete lack of physical tools. If anyone gets in the paint, its essentially a layup or a drawn foul. He is already setting up and rotating where he should be, so you won't see improvement there. He has little to no upside as a defender and will be played off the court in the playoffs. Long term, he can be a nice 20 minute a night bench player, but he isn't a starting center on any seriously competitive team.
You are totally clueless. His opponent FG % in the paint is middle of the pack, and that is with his guards basically letting anyone and everyone walk into the paint at will. Opponent FG % is the same as that of Sabonis, and better than Wiseman, Adebayo, Valanciunas, Jokic, Jabari Smith Jr. (YEP). https://www.nba.com/stats/players/opponent-shooting?PlayerPosition=C https://www.nba.com/stats/players/opponent-shooting?PlayerPosition=F
I just can't see someone as talented as sengun getting only 20 mins bc he isn't a "defensive anchor". I can see him getting played off the court during playoffs, but then again a sht ton of other starting centers get played off the court also, so that's nothing new.
No, here comes the data. Your "20 minutes a game" take is beyond laughable. But then again, so are most of your posts, so nothing new there. You have literally nothing to back up your asinine claim.
BTW, looking at that data confirms what my eye test told me, Jabari's defense is not (yet) that great. His paint defense isn't any better than Alpi's. And very few people would do a lot better than Alpi and Jabari in Silas's "system" and with these ******* awful guard "defenders".
Not sure what FG% less than 5ft is supposed to prove? One of his big issues is fouls so damn much, which would have zero effect on opponent FG%. The other is he just concedes paths to the rim, so not even 100% that those are counted in the 5ft metric, which are layups. Luckily they have this other more sophisticated defensive dashboard. https://go.nba.com/gnxyj As expected, you can find him near the bottom the list. He is a horrible defensive player, one of the worst in the league.
Yes, I understand the stat, thanks. He is ~70ish out of 104. His differential is actually positive, meaning, people score easier against him on average than they do in general....as a center. That is god awful. Haven't watched Capella this year, so I can't really comment on how he has been playing. In the 3 or so years prior, I did spot checks, and he was excellent in this metric. He is either injured this year or just dogging it.
