Scola to Tari might be the worst comparison I have ever seen I am sorry. There's quite literally nothing alike in their game, like on offense, defense, demeanor, strength, athleticism.
Scola is more like smaller LaMarcus Aldridge. Sengun is smaller slightly more athletic Sabonis with better vision and worse rebounding.
That is where people will be wrong about Tari, him missing layups is vastly because of his inexperience at the NBA level rather than him being overly unskilled. Also why people trying to see him as unskilled after one season is beyond my comprehension. The NBA version of Scola was more of a refined garbage man than a superstar. He had a combo of moves that worked again and again. He was a superstar on the National team and maybe in the Chinese league.
I have made this comp many times and it is still the same. Scola and Sengun are basically the same player - the only difference is Sengun is featured in the NBA whereas Scola was always a role player, but on his national team Scola was featured and did everything Alpi is doing. They are both very very good NBA players. DD
In no world was Scola ever a garbage man what??? Scola lived in the low post and had arguably the top 5 post moves/foot work in the league. He had really consistent offense from the low post and the mid range jumper. There's nothing really chaotic or out of control about his game. Scola's problem was his lack of length and athleticism. He was actually a below average defender because he offered no rim protection and couldn't move fast enough to affect the passing lane or defend on the perimeter. If I had to choose someone whos the exact opposite of Scola, it would be Tari Eason, He has a long wing span, could defend the perimeter, get steals, block shots. On offense, he literally does not post up, nor does he have consistent jump shot, he thrives on complete chaos from having quick hands and offensive rebounds.
I've made the comparison several times awhile back and got called all types derogatory things. But Sengun's ceiling if lucky is Luis Scola. Right now Sengun has a few tricks around the basket, but he has nowhere near the arsenal Scola developed. Scola had midrange & his post game was money Sengun's offense is solid. But he'll never be a superstar
If you watch him closely he was. It is not even coaches telling him to convert others misses or 2nd chance opportunities, he did it out of his own volition. On many nights donning the Albiceleste colors, Manu Ginobody was absent a ton and Luifa was exactly the Number One option on that National team. On the Rockets team when McGrady and Yao and Artest played, he was only the 3rd or 4th option. And when Martin and Lowry played, he also was just the 3rd option most nights. And he never mouthed off.
Yes but Sabonis was averaging 3.0 offensive rebs in his all star season while Sengun averages 3.2 in his sophomore season.
Yeah…kinda, both bigs playing like magicians, great vision, high bball iq, solid post games, beautiful footwork, sweet passing, a lot shifty pump fakes; their differences are: Al Pee loves slamming it home ferociously, while Scola got used to laying it in n go… Scola loves wearing wig with long hair Al Pee's hairdo always reminds me young Shawn the Sheep…
Then I will love it if Sengun goes to the Warriors. I miss watching the Kings under Adelman and Sengun could thrive in that style of play because the Warriors are a bit similar in their constant movement.
