DJ Augustin should’ve been re-signed from the get go. Several posters argued for it and wanted to see him return. Now, granted that FO wanted us to lose and see about KPJ, Nix and TyTy, but especially because priority was KPJ’s development, not keeping Augustin was a big mistake. Gordon was a vet, but he’s not a PG. Thoughts?
They should have signed Augustin even just to be an example in practice. It's 100% intentional if you ask me. They didn't want competent PG or rim protection this season. They didn't want the possibility of these players developing too fast and I think that's dumb. There are better ways to tank with less systemic and cultural damage.
He does deserve criticism - but it's for not making any moves at PG and working the margins of the roster, and playing too much KPJ and Nix at the 1. Nothing to do with DJA. I dont feel like this team experimented enough this year, it was on autopilot.
If people still cannot understand the value of a veteran, when KPJ has came out and said how much it helps for a guy like DJ to point out certain things, then your opinion holds no value. Sorry. I think so too @Mathloom
Stone deserves criticism for the point guard situation .... Water is wet. Stone does not deserve criticism for not resigning DJ Augustin .... unless it was to lead the tank and he already had a tank commander.
You know why we don't have a proper PG? Because a good PG wins games. That's why they are chasing one only this offseason, with plenty of money to expend.
I think Stone was misguided in thinking he could put KPJ and Jalen (our franchise prospect) in a backcourt and just have them figure it out. Two seasons in, that approach has not worked out, and has likely been a detriment to Jalen’s development. Stone clearly wasn’t interested in building a competitive roster; he’s focused on accumulating raw talent. And I get that as a rebuilding team. But a more balanced roster, especially at the point guard position, would have been better for the development of Jalen and our other top prospects. I think Stone built around the wrong guys (Wood, Wall, Olidipo, KPJ), ignored culture, ignored bad coaching, didn’t prioritize what was best for the development of our prospects. I like the guys we’ve drafted. That seems to be a strength. But player development, asset management, team culture, and roster construction is not.
Scrubs won't save us. Vets are nice to have in the locker room but they're not going to turn KPJ/Nix/TyTy into Chris Paul. This team needs actual NBA rotation basketball players. When we get good winning players they will create the culture everyone is droning on about.
i disagree KPJ needed to learn from a real PG in the worst way. He could have learned from Wall, Dennis and DJ
Goodness gracious, do people even understand the point of a veteran? Feel like I’m talking to a bunch of red necks
You can disagree. Doesn’t matter when the player y’all are crying about is dj Augustin. Nobody gives af what he says or does. The only reason they signed him is because the rockets had to fill a roster spot this cliche of signing scrub veterans as if they matter doesn’t apply. You get them but they better be significant. Otherwise y’all whining about trash and speaks more to how sorry this franchise is in its current state. Losers were all excited about theis like he mattered. He never did. Overpaid a insignificant player who makes no difference. But but he was a vet. No he sucks and doesn’t matter. Just like Augustin listen to what yall are trying to argue. Kpj needs to learn and it’s bc they didn’t sign Augustin. Gtfoh with that garbage
who is 'yall"? I just said I think KPJ could have benefited from learning the PG from other PG's. relax
The issue is that Stone is oblivious to culture, environment and attention to detail. He went and hired a coach that would do it the way Stone wanted it done and was just grateful to be a head coach. He hired a few older guys he felt would balance the softer Silas but then he undermined the coaching staff. Whatever, it’s a disaster but it can still work with a top 2 (maybe 3) pick in this draft. Otherwise people are going to start asking why the #2 pick from two years ago and the #3 pick from a year ago have eFG%’s of 47% and 48%…
